If your association is accepting proposals for talks, posters, or sessions, you’ll submit your abstract in the event’s Abstract Center in the Portal.
Prerequisites
- You must be signed in to the Portal with an account linked to a contact.
- The event’s call for abstracts must be open. If your association has not set up an abstract type and submission process for the event, there is nothing to submit yet.
- Know who will present: an existing contact you can search for, or a name and email address for someone who is not in Rhythm yet.
Submit Your Abstract
- Open the event’s Abstract Center using the link your association provides.
- If you have an unfinished draft for this event, select Continue Working on Your Draft to pick up where you left off. Otherwise, select Submit an Abstract to start a new submission.
- Choose the type of abstract you want to propose. The type determines which submission form you complete.
- Enter the abstract title and description, name the presenter, and add any co-authors. For each person, select an existing contact or enter their name and email address if they are not already in Rhythm.
- If the event’s form asks you to choose a session track, select the one that best fits your proposal.
- Submit the abstract.
Result
Rhythm records your abstract with a submitted status and assigns it a number your association can use to refer to it. If your association has turned on confirmation emails for this event, you’ll receive an email confirming your abstract arrived. Presenters and co-authors you named do not receive a separate copy of that email.
Tip
Anyone you name as the presenter or a co-author can see this abstract from their own Portal account, so only add people who should be able to view it.
Save a Draft and Finish Later
If you are not ready to submit, you can leave the form and return later. Rhythm keeps one unfinished draft per event for your account. A draft is not reviewed until you submit it, so you can safely leave it partly filled in while you gather details. It does not count toward any submission limit unless the event uses a presenter-based limit, which counts drafts where you are the presenter.
Limits on How Many Abstracts You Can Submit
Some events limit how many abstracts one presenter can submit. When your association sets this limit, Rhythm counts every abstract where you are the presenter, in any status, including drafts and abstracts that were not accepted. The limit does not count only abstracts that are still under review.
Why You Might Not Be Able to Submit
- The call for abstracts isn't open yet, or has closed. Your association sets the opening and closing window for submissions. Outside that window, the submission form will not let you continue.
- No abstract type is set up for the event yet. If your association has not configured an abstract type and its submission process, you will not have anything to choose from.
- No presenter information was given. Every abstract needs a presenter, either an existing contact or a typed name with an email address.
- A co-author is missing an email address. If you type in co-author details, each co-author needs an email address so Rhythm can identify them.
- The abstract has already been decided. If your abstract has moved past submission, such as when it was marked as needing more information, you generally cannot resubmit it yourself through this form. Contact your association to ask how to respond. If you need to provide materials such as handouts once your abstract is no longer editable, ask whether the presenter can add them to the related session in the Presenter Center instead; that depends on your association turning on session document uploads for the event, not on reopening the abstract itself.
