Some events show certain registration types only after you enter a coupon code. Use this guide to choose your registration type and enter the code when the form asks for one.
Before You Begin
Prerequisites
- You need a valid coupon code from the association if the registration type you want requires one. The association issues these codes; Rhythm does not generate them or explain what they are for.
- If you register on someone else’s behalf, such as for a colleague or as a group administrator, that person’s record must allow you to act for them. If it does not, the form refuses the code even when the code is valid.
- Coupon-gated registration access works only for individual registration. Group registration does not include a field for an access code, so you cannot reach a code-required registration type through a group order. A coupon code entered during group registration also does not discount only selected registrants in that order, so it is not honored the same way it is during individual registration.
Choose Your Registration Type
- On the event’s registration form, review the registration types available for the event.
- Select the registration type that applies to you.
Result
If that registration type requires a coupon code, the form shows a field where you must enter the code before you can continue.
Enter Your Coupon Code
- Type your coupon code into the field.
- Continue with the registration form.
Result
If the code is valid for this registration type, and the association’s coupon settings allow you to use it, the form unlocks the type. Your registration then continues with that type’s terms and pricing. The code does not apply a discount; it only gives you access to the registration type. Any special pricing comes from the registration type’s own setup, not from the code you entered.
Warning
After you unlock a registration type, removing the coupon code does not always lock it again. You may still be able to keep that registration type selected and complete checkout at full price without the code.
Why Your Code Might Be Refused
Warning
The form shows the same general message whenever it refuses a coupon code, so it does not tell you which reason applies.
- The code does not exist, has a typo, or belongs to a coupon this registration type does not accept.
- The code has reached its use limit, or its valid dates have passed.
- You are entering the code for someone else, and you are not allowed to act for them.
If your code is refused and you believe it should work, check that you typed it correctly, then contact the association. They can tell you whether the code has expired or reached its limit. A generic error can also appear outside this first screen, such as when you apply a coupon while modifying an already-completed registration, and the wording rarely says that the issue is really the coupon setup or your eligibility.
Applying a coupon while modifying an existing registration, such as right after adding a guest, can sometimes fail with an error about the order not being ready to process instead of an error about the coupon. If that happens, try completing payment by credit card instead of relying on the coupon on that same order, and contact the association if it still does not go through.
Tip
Entering a valid code does not hold it for you. If someone else uses the code’s remaining uses before you finish registering, that same code may no longer work when you try again.
