Once you set up a job board in Career Center Setup, add it to a Portal page so job seekers can search postings, open a posting, and apply. This article explains how to add the Job Board block, choose which board it shows, and understand what visitors see when no board is selected or they have not signed in.
Prerequisites
- The job board you want to show must already exist in Career Center › Setup › Jobs › Boards.
- You need access to your Portal's page designer to place a block on a page.
Add a Job Board Block to a Page
In the Portal page designer, add the Job Board block to a page. You’ll find it under Careers. The block has one setting, Job Board ID, where you enter the identifier for the board you want to show. Use the identifier from the board’s ID: field in Career Center › Setup › Jobs › Boards when you create or edit the board.
Warning
Job Board ID is a free-text field, so the page designer does not confirm that the identifier matches an existing board. If the identifier does not match a board in your Rhythm account, the page shows "Unable to load directory" instead of the board. If someone later deletes the board named in the block, the page stops loading and shows the same message.
Tip
If the board’s Custom Search Results Template uses Font Awesome icon markup and the icons appear as boxes instead, such as , try replacing the fa-solid prefix with fas in the template.
If the board uses the search display, visitors may see an empty area until they run a search, even when postings exist. Add page text near the block, such as search instructions or a count of open positions, so visitors do not mistake an unsearched board for one with no jobs.
What Happens If No Board Is Chosen
If you leave Job Board ID empty, the page shows the first job board in your Rhythm account instead of a specific board you chose. Use this only as a fallback to avoid, not as a way to intentionally show “any” board. Always set Job Board ID when you place the block, especially if your Rhythm account has more than one board.
Sign-In and Public Access
Visitors do not need to sign in to your Portal to search a named board, open one of its entries, or send a message to a posting’s contact. The exception is a block with an empty Job Board ID. In that case, the page must first look up which boards exist so it can show the first one, and that lookup requires the visitor to sign in. If you want the page to work for visitors who have not signed in, set Job Board ID instead of leaving it blank.
Job boards also have a This is a public directory setting on the board’s setup screen. Checking or unchecking it does not change whether visitors can search the board, open an entry, or send a message from it. Those actions work either way, as described above.
Tip
The Portal page’s own access setting controls whether visitors must sign in before the page opens. The Job Board block does not control page access, so check the page access setting if you want anonymous visitors to reach the board.
Dependencies and Precedence
- The block’s Job Board ID is the only setting that decides which board appears here, except for the empty-block fallback described above.
- When you change a board’s searchable fields, layouts, or online-application setting in Career Center Setup, every Portal page that names that board shows the change automatically. You do not need to update the page.
- Saving a board discards its kept search results, so the next search on any page that shows the board uses the new settings, whether or not that save was the change you intended.
Permissions
You need access to your Portal’s page designer to place or change a Job Board block. You also need the Setup permission that opens Career Center › Setup › Jobs › Boards to create or edit the board itself. Placing the block does not require permission for that specific board.
Validation and Errors
The page designer does not validate Job Board ID when you save a page. It accepts an identifier that does not match any board, or one that matched a board that has since been deleted, without warning. To confirm the block shows the board you intended, check it on the live page, not only in the designer, which shows only a placeholder.
