In your Rhythm account, Portal permissions are set by contact role. For each role, you decide whether an employer contact can open the Employer Center, post a job, and edit a job when they sign in on an organization’s behalf. This article explains how the grid works, what the row with no contact role does, and why the page sometimes does not save.

What It Controls

Employer contacts sign in to the Portal with one or more contact roles, such as billing contact or primary contact. On this page, you choose which roles can use these Portal features:

  • Open the Employer Center, which is the employer’s home page on the Portal.
  • Post a job on the organization’s behalf.
  • Edit the organization’s jobs, and close them from the posting.

Each active contact role in your Rhythm account has its own row. The first row is not tied to a specific role, and its checked boxes apply to every contact at an employer, no matter which role they hold. If a contact role is marked administrative, that row shows a sentence instead of checkboxes because the role automatically receives every permission for its organization.

Tip

Contact roles are set up once for your whole Rhythm account and are shared across every application that uses them. You do not create them on this page. See Set Up Contact Roles if you need to add a role before setting its Portal permissions here.

Where to Find It

Go to Career Center › Setup › Contact Roles. This opens Contact Role Permissions Settings.

Prerequisites

  • Your Rhythm account’s Career Center general settings must already be saved. Until then, this page shows a message asking you to update those settings first, and the permissions grid is not available.
  • You need the same Setup permission that opens Career Center Setup.

The Settings

Row Applies to
All Contacts (first row, no role) Every contact at an employer organization, no matter which role they hold
One row per active contact role Contacts who hold that specific role
An administrative contact role No checkboxes appear; a sentence explains that the role automatically receives every permission for its organization
Column Effect when ticked
Access the Employer Center The contact can open the Employer Center on the Portal
Post jobs The contact can post a job on the employer’s behalf
Edit jobs The contact can edit the employer’s jobs and close them from the posting

Your Rhythm account’s records can also store whether a contact role may close jobs and whether it may search resumes, but this page does not include boxes for either setting. No other Console page sets those values, and employer resume search does not exist in Careers today. This only matters if something outside the Console sets those two values for you: saving this grid clears both values on every row, no matter what they held before.

Dependencies and Precedence

  • Saving replaces the whole list of rows. Rhythm keeps only the rows shown in the grid. If a contact role is made inactive, its row disappears, and saving drops its stored permissions even though you did not change that row.
  • Reactivating a role afterward restores it with no permissions. You need to tick its boxes again.
  • Contact roles live in CRM. Deactivate, reactivate, or delete a role from Set Up Contact Roles, not from this page.
  • You cannot delete a contact role while this page’s settings still name it with any ticked box. Delete or clear its row first.

Change Impact and How to Revert

Saving applies the change to every employer contact in your Rhythm account at once, and there is no confirmation prompt. To undo a change, tick the boxes back to their previous settings and save again. The page does not distinguish a first save from a correction.

If you leave the page without saving, Rhythm discards your unsaved changes without warning. This includes leaving through the side menu, a breadcrumb, or your browser’s back button.

Permissions

You need the same Setup permission that opens Career Center Setup for your Rhythm account. See Careers Permissions Reference. There is no separate permission for this grid.

Validation and Errors

  • If your Rhythm account’s Career Center general settings have not been saved yet, this page shows: "Please update base career center settings before setting up contact role permissions." Follow its link, save the general settings, and come back.
  • If your Rhythm account has no active contact roles yet, only the All Contacts row appears. If every box in that row is left unticked and you click Save Changes, nothing visibly happens: there is no confirmation and no error. Tick at least one box in the All Contacts row before saving.
  • If a save fails for another reason, the page shows "Unable to save settings" with more detail. Your unsaved ticks stay on the page so you can try again.
