A job board is the page job seekers use on your Portal to search for and read job postings. Staff can set up one or more boards, and each board controls which postings appear, what visitors can search by, and how search results and individual postings look.
Why Results Can Look Out of Date
To keep searches fast, Rhythm saves a copy of a job board’s search results for a while after the results are first built. When a visitor repeats the same search on the same board, Rhythm can show that saved copy instead of running the search again.
Saving the board always discards those kept results. After you save a job board in the Console, the next search on that board rebuilds the results from scratch using the board’s new settings. Use this when you need a change to appear on the Portal right away, instead of waiting for the saved results to expire on their own.
Changing a job posting does not discard a board’s saved results. Only saving the board does that. If you edit or close a posting and do not see the change on the job board right away, the board is still showing saved results until they expire or someone saves the board again.
What Happens If You Remove a Job Posting Type a Board Uses
A job board does not store a record of which job posting types it lists. Because the board has no reference to that posting type, removing the posting type has no effect on any job board that uses it, and there is nothing on the board to break.
The Default Entry Layout
When a visitor opens a posting from a board’s search results, the board shows either its own custom layout or Rhythm’s default layout. The board always keeps and shows the fields that layout uses, even when those fields are not included in the field list saved on the board. This prevents an entry from missing a field that its layout needs.
Template Formatting Rules
A board's custom layouts use Nunjucks-style formatting filters, not Handlebars-style helpers. If you try to use a helper such as {{percent ...}} or {{currency ...}}, a field can appear blank, the browser can show an error, or the page can fail to load. Use a numeral filter to format a number.
Logos display best around 140 by 140 pixels. A logo saved at a very different size may not fit the board's layout correctly.
Example
An administrator edits a job board’s searchable fields and saves the change. A job seeker who searched that board a few minutes earlier, then searches again right away, sees results built from the new settings because saving the board discarded the previous saved results. Later that day, staff close one of the postings from those results. The board’s saved results do not change until they expire on their own or someone saves the board again.
