Reviewers sometimes need to return to a submitted review to fix a score, add a note, or reconsider a recommendation. Review-team administrators may also need to read a review without changing it. What you can do depends on whether the review’s round is still open.
Change a Review You Submitted
Prerequisites
- You submitted the review yourself, or you administer the review’s exact round and bucket as a review-team administrator.
- The review’s round must still be open and before its deadline for Rhythm to accept your change.
- Open your reviewer list for the space and find the submission on the Reviewed by Me tab.
- Select Edit Review.
- Update your scores, recommendation, or notes.
- Submit the form again.
Result
Rhythm saves your changes and returns you to the review space.
Warning
After a round closes or its deadline passes, Rhythm will not save changes or deletions for reviews in that round, even though you can still read the review. You see the refusal only when you try to save, so a review that still looks editable may already be past its deadline. Changing a review only updates the review you already submitted; it cannot move the review to a different reviewer, round, or submission. Once a round closes, its Submit Review button also appears greyed out on any abstract still in that round because Rhythm will not accept changes.
When you change an existing review, Rhythm does not re-check the scoring rules that a new review must pass, such as maximum scores or required criteria. If you save the review that way, it can end up with a score above its usual maximum or without a criterion that would normally be required.
Read a Review
You can read any review you wrote at any time, regardless of the round’s status. A closed round or passed deadline blocks changes and deletions, but it does not block reading. A review-team administrator can also read any review made under the exact round and bucket they administer, whether or not they wrote it.
- Switch to the administrator view of the space.
- Open the submission and find the reviewer whose review you want to read.
- Select View Review.
Result
The review opens as read-only. It shows who reviewed it, when they reviewed it, the bucket, round, and team it was made under, its scores, and any notes the reviewer wrote.
Tip
If you are a review-team administrator and select Edit Review from someone else’s review, Rhythm does not open that reviewer’s review for editing. Instead, it opens your own review for the same submission’s current round, either starting a new review for you or editing the one you already have as the signed-in reviewer. If you only want to look at the other reviewer’s work, use View Review and stop there.
Administrator view and reviewer work stay separate in another way, too. Switching to the administrator view gives you access to admin-enabled actions such as Update Review Information, which changes a submission's review bucket, round, or status. It does not let you submit, edit, or delete a review. To do that, switch back to your reviewer role first.
Why You Might Not Be Able to Change a Review
If you try to open or save a review that is not yours, and you do not administer its round and bucket, Rhythm refuses the request. There is no partial access. If the review’s round has closed or passed its deadline, you can still read the review, but Rhythm refuses any change or deletion, no matter who is asking.
You can return to a review you already submitted and adjust it as long as its round stays open. Rhythm treats that as a normal part of reviewing, not an exception. Once the round closes, that window ends for everyone, including the reviewer who wrote it.
