Some online forms have one submission type. Others ask you to choose from several options, such as an award category, nomination type, or abstract type. Before you start the form, Rhythm checks which options you can choose.
How Rhythm Decides What to Offer You
A submission type appears on the choice step only when you pass both eligibility checks. You must be eligible for the type, and the submission owner must be eligible for a process attached to that type. The submission owner is either you or, in a space that collects organization submissions, your organization. If the owner is not eligible for any process attached to a type, Rhythm does not show that type, even when you personally qualify for it.
Tip
If you're setting up a space and a type appears for members you did not mean to include, check the type's own access parameters. A submission type can be available to all active users by default. If you need to limit it to a narrower audience, update those parameters instead of relying only on process-level eligibility.
Prerequisites
- You must be signed in with a linked contact record.
- In a space that collects organization submissions, the submission belongs to your organization instead of you personally. Before you begin, make sure your account is linked to the right organization.
- Open the space from Browse Online Forms.
- Select Submit to start a new submission.
- Choose a type from the options shown.

Rhythm takes you to the next step for that type’s eligible process. If the process requires it, you confirm your details or your organization’s details before you continue to the submission form.
The submission form's Name field is the required title for the record, not necessarily your own name. Use a short, descriptive title so you and staff can tell this submission apart from others later. For example, you might use your name plus a word or two describing the submission.
Who the Submission Belongs To
Each space is set up in advance to collect submissions from individuals or organizations, so you do not choose this each time you submit. In an organization-owned space, Rhythm checks type eligibility against you personally and process eligibility against your organization. That means Rhythm can offer a type because your organization qualifies, even if you would not qualify for that process on your own. If you are a staff member submitting for someone else instead of yourself, see Submit on a Member's Behalf for that separate path.
In an organization-owned space, Rhythm can link your submission to your organization automatically, based on your own linked organization. The form does not need to show an Organization field for that link to happen. If you do not see that field on the form, the organization is still connected behind the scenes. If a form does show a built-in Organization field, remember that it displays the organization's ID, not its name, so seeing a number instead of a name is expected.
Why a Type You Expected Is Missing
Warning
A missing type usually comes down to eligibility, not a technical problem. Check these in order:
- The type itself. You may not meet the type’s own eligibility criteria.
- Its process. You may qualify for the type, but no process attached to it is eligible for you or, in an organization space, for your organization.
- Your organization link. In an organization-owned space, Rhythm cannot offer a type that depends on an organization’s eligibility unless you have a linked organization.
Rhythm does not tell you which rule excluded a type. If you believe you should see a type that is missing, contact the association running the space.
