When you review submissions in a space, start by reading the submitted content before you score it. Rhythm shows the content in the format that matches its source: online form answers for submissions made directly in Submissions, or the original application record for submissions mirrored from another Rhythm application.
Prerequisites
You must belong to at least one review team in the submission’s space. Any role on any team in the space gives you read access to every submission there, not only submissions in your round or bucket.
Open a Submission to Read It
Open a submission from the place where you access your reviews, such as your Needs My Review list, an assignment, or a link. The submission content appears with its review round, bucket, and status.
If the space mirrors submissions from another Rhythm application, such as an abstract, award application, membership application, certification application, or accreditation report, Rhythm opens the original record in the viewer for that record type. You see that full source view, not only the details copied into the submission. Rhythm uses the same content view anywhere you read the submission as a reviewer, including inside the review form.
Result
You see the submission content in the layout that matches its source, so you read the same information the submitter or source application recorded instead of a stripped-down copy.
Limitations
- Belonging to a review team for the space gives you read access to every submission in that space, not only submissions assigned to your bucket or round. This is intentional, so a team can still reach a submission assigned to a colleague if it moves later.
- For submissions made directly through an online form, the content layout comes from the way your Rhythm account set up that form. There is no separate content section beyond what the form defines.
- Rhythm uses the same viewer to show submission content inside the review form when you score it, but only if the review form includes a component for it, such as the Review Submission component for an abstract or the matching component for an application. What you read before reviewing and what you see while reviewing come from the same underlying record and use the same layout. If you cannot see the submission content from inside the form, ask whoever manages review forms to add and save that component; the form does not need to be rebuilt or cloned.
- If the space runs a blind review round, Rhythm hides the submitter's contact details from you while you read the submission. A separate round setting controls whether the title is hidden too. If that setting is turned off, you still see the title even though the submitter's name is hidden, but an older blind round that never set it hides the title as well. Even when a title is hidden, you may still find it by typing part of it into a reviewer list's filter box because the filter searches the underlying title text, not only what appears on screen.
Tip
If a submission was mirrored from another Rhythm application, you are reading the original record, not a copy made when it was mirrored. Changes staff make to the source record after mirroring can appear here too.
If Something Goes Wrong
| What you see | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| The viewer shows an "Unable to…" message instead of the content | You may not have access to the source record behind this submission, or Rhythm could not load it. Contact whoever manages the space if this continues. |
| You cannot open a submission at all | You are not a member of any review team in this submission’s space. Ask an administrator to add you to a team, or confirm that you are looking at the right space. |
