Review a submission by opening it from your assigned reviews, scoring it against the space’s criteria, and submitting your scores. If the space asks for them, you’ll also submit a recommendation, notes, or comments.
Prerequisites
- You must be on the review team assigned to the submission’s bucket for its current round, and you must not have already submitted a review of this submission in that round.
- The space must have review settings and criteria, and the submission must be in an open round before that round’s deadline.
- To review on an event's own microsite, staff must install the Reviews feature on that microsite and add a Reviews & Judging menu item. Without that setup, your review center can look empty even when assignments are waiting for you.
Find and Open Your Assignment
Go to Reviews & Judging, open the space, and look under Needs My Review. Each row shows a submission waiting for your review, along with its round and bucket. Choose Submit Review on the row you want to review.
Tip
Your assignments appear only under the specific account they were assigned to. If you use more than one account or profile and do not see an assignment you expected, make sure you are signed in with the same account your review-team administrator added.
After you submit a review, the submission moves to Reviewed by Me and shows your score, recommendation, and Edit Review instead of Submit Review. If you declined the assignment, it appears under Declined by Me. Each tab shows its count in brackets after the name, such as Needs My Review (3), and the count disappears when it is zero.
Score and Submit
- Choose Submit Review on the submission you want to review.
- Complete the review form by scoring every criterion that applies to this submission’s round and bucket, from zero up to its maximum.
- If the space asks for a recommendation, choose one.
- Add any notes, per-score comments, or custom field values the form offers.
- Submit the review.
Result
Your review is saved for this submission and round. The submission’s row moves from Needs My Review to Reviewed by Me, where its score and recommendation appear if you provided one.
Rhythm shows only the criteria for this submission’s specific round and bucket. If the space limits a criterion to other rounds or buckets, that criterion does not appear on your form. You must score each applicable criterion within its stated maximum before you can submit. A criterion with a maximum above 15 appears as a number box instead of a row of selectable values. If the space turns on recommendations, you must choose one before submitting.
Tip
You can add notes, comments on individual scores, and any custom fields your Rhythm account has added to reviews. These fields have no length limit and are not required, so leaving them blank does not stop your review from submitting.
Tip
If an abstract field you expected to see on the review form is missing, first check whether the submission has a value in that field. A field with no data can look like it is not showing at all; submitting a new test abstract with that field filled in is a quick way to tell the two apart.
Save a Draft and Come Back Later
If you are not ready to submit, save your progress and finish later. Rhythm keeps one draft for each reviewer, submission, and round, then offers it to you the next time you open that same review.
Warning
As with a submission’s own draft, Rhythm deletes your review draft as soon as you press submit, before it knows whether the review was accepted. If the submission is refused at that point, your saved draft is already gone, though your answers stay on the screen for that visit.
Warning
In some cases, saving a draft review and reopening it later has duplicated the review's questions and inflated the displayed total score, which can cause an error when you try to submit. If that happens to you, avoid entering scores until you are ready to submit in one sitting. If save-and-return-later is causing repeated trouble for your reviewers, an administrator can turn that capability off for the form instead.
Reopening a Review
If you already have a review for this submission in its current round, opening it again loads your saved answers instead of a blank form. Any changes you make update that same review rather than creating a new one.
Blind Rounds and Hidden Titles
Some rounds hide the submitter, the submission title, or both from reviewers. When a round is set up this way, the review form does not show those details to you as a reviewer. This is only a display choice: it controls what the review screens show you, not what is stored or sent to your browser underneath.
Tip
The heading text above the review form itself may come from the underlying page template rather than from anything your association can edit directly. If that text needs to change, it may need to go through whoever designs your microsite rather than being something you can update from Submissions settings.
Decline Instead of Reviewing
If the round allows declines and you have not submitted your review yet, you can decline the assignment instead. Choose a decline reason, add a comment if you wish, and send it. Declining does not undo itself; once you decline, you cannot change it back yourself. If a team administrator later wants you reviewing again, they can reset the assignment’s status from the Portal’s reviewer assignment tools.
If Something Goes Wrong
| What you see | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| Unable to process review | Your review was refused. Common causes are that the round has closed or passed its deadline, you are not on the team assigned to this submission’s bucket and round, or you have already reviewed this submission in this round. Your answers stay on screen for this visit, but your draft, if you had one, is already gone |
| No decline option appears | The round does not allow declines, or you have already submitted a review for this assignment |
| The form shows Review settings have not been setup for this space... | The space you are reviewing in does not have review settings yet. Contact whoever administers the space |
| The form shows Submission is not currently assigned to a round | The submission does not have a current round to review it in. Contact whoever administers the space |
