After you submit a form, you can find it in its space. If your Rhythm account’s editing rules still allow changes, you can reopen the submission and correct it.
Prerequisites
You must be signed in to the Portal with a linked contact. To correct a submission, submission editing must be turned on for that space in your Rhythm account, and you must still be within any editing window the space allows.
See Your Submissions
Open the space to review the submissions that you or your organization made there. In an organization space, you see your organization’s submissions; in other spaces, you see your own.
Choose a submission’s name to open it and review its full content and current status.
Correct a Submission
- Open the submission you want to change.
- Choose to edit it.
- Make your changes on the form and save.
Result
Rhythm saves your changes to the submission.
You can correct only a submission you own. Whether you can save changes depends on the space’s editing setting and, if the space has one, its editing window. The submission’s current status does not control editing, so you may still be able to change a submission that has already been decided if editing is turned on and you are inside the window.
Warning
The Edit Submission page does not tell you ahead of time whether you can save. Rhythm refuses the save only after you try, so if editing is not enabled for the space or your editing window has closed, you find out when you attempt to save your changes.
Limitations
- When you save from the Portal’s edit page, Rhythm sends the submission’s whole record, not just the fields shown on the form. Fields the form does not display, such as status and review placement, are included in the record but cannot be changed from this page.
- If you are a member of a review team for the space, you can also open and save a submission through this same path, separate from ownership. This article covers correcting your own submission as its owner.
- If you save a submission as a draft and return to it later, Rhythm keeps the built-in and custom field values you already entered, so you do not need to redo your earlier answers. On an abstract form, though, a field that appears only after you check a certain box can fail to reappear correctly after you resume a saved draft, even if you check the same box again. If a field you expect to see is missing after you resume a draft, try re-checking the box that controls it.
- If your association closes a space entirely, you can lose access to your own past submissions there. If you want your association to preserve that history while still stopping new activity, ask them to consider leaving the space open, turning off editing, and setting a submission end date instead of closing it outright.
If Something Goes Wrong
| What you see | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| Submission editing not enabled | The space in your Rhythm account does not allow submitters to edit their own submissions. Contact whoever manages the space if you need a correction made |
| Illegal attempt by [contact] to edit submission [id] | You do not own this submission, so Rhythm refused the save |
| You cannot find a submission you expected to see | Check that you are looking at the space where the submission was made. Organization-owned and contact-owned submissions are listed differently, depending on how the space is set up |
| You can see an abstract in your submission list, but Edit does not open it | This can happen even when nothing looks wrong with the record itself. It points to a problem with the Edit feature in that Rhythm account, rather than with your submission. Contact Support |
| An attached file will not download | If the file appears to have no extension, upload it again with a clear file extension in its name, then try the download again |
