An appeal is a specific ask within a campaign, such as an email, mailing, or phone night. When you record a gift, you can identify which appeal prompted it. Each appeal belongs to one campaign, and you create, edit, or delete appeals only from the campaign record's Appeals tab in the Console.

When to Use This

Use appeals when you want to track giving from one specific push within a campaign, separate from the campaign's overall results.

Prerequisites

  • The campaign for the appeal must already exist. See Create and Change a Campaign.
  • You need the appropriate permission to create, edit, or delete appeals.

Adding an Appeal

  1. Open the campaign's record page and select the Appeals tab.
  2. Select Create an Appeal.
  3. Enter a Name:. This field is required.
  4. Rhythm suggests an ID: based on the name and adds the campaign's own identifier and a colon at the beginning, such as END_OF_YEAR:EMAIL. Every appeal ID must start with that campaign prefix, which keeps the appeal tied to its campaign.
  5. Optionally enter a Goal: and notes.
  6. If this appeal should use a different fundraising product than its campaign for one or more funds, turn on Override Fundraising Products. See Choose Which Product a Campaign or Appeal Uses for Each Fund.
  7. Select Save Changes.

Warning

Leave the suggested ID: in place, or type your own ending after the campaign prefix. Do not clear the field entirely. If you do, Rhythm still saves the appeal and uses the literal word "undefined" after the colon.

Tip

The dialog heading is reversed right now. It says Edit an Appeal when you create a new appeal, and Create an Appeal when you edit an existing appeal. Only the heading is reversed; the rest of the form works as expected.

Result

The new appeal appears in the campaign's Appeals list, and the tab shows a count. After you choose this campaign on a Fundraising form, the appeal is available in the Appeal: picker. See Choose a Fund, Campaign, or Appeal in a Console Form.

Changing or Deleting an Appeal

  1. On the campaign's Appeals tab, select the pencil beside the appeal to change its name, goal, notes, or product overrides, then select Save Changes. After you create an appeal, you cannot change its identifier or campaign.
  2. To remove the appeal instead, select the trash icon and confirm.

Warning

Deleting an appeal can't be undone.

What Can Stop the Save or Delete

  • No name entered, or no campaign found for the appeal. Rhythm refuses the save.
  • An identifier that doesn't start with the campaign's own identifier and a colon. Rhythm refuses the save. You should not see this if you leave the suggested identifier in place.
  • The appeal is still named by a giving process, a recurring gift, or a Fundraising setting. Rhythm refuses the delete. Remove those references or point them to something else first.
