Three rule sets share the Fundraising Settings page: donor club tiers, soft-credit rules, and donation product fund mappings. Together, they place donors into clubs, credit related people, and turn donation product purchases into gifts. The page checks all three when you save, and it shows the same warning when a change affects existing records only after you reprocess them.
Prerequisites
You need access to Fundraising's setup Settings page to change these rules.
Donor Club Giving Tiers
Automatic club placement compares each donor's total giving with the tier ladder you define. Each tier needs a starting amount, an ending amount, and a donor club.
- Go to Fundraising & Gifts › Setup › Settings.
- Under
How should we assign donors to donor clubs?, chooseBy Giving with a Time PeriodorBy Lifetime Giving. If you chooseBy Giving with a Time Period, also enter aGiving Period:in months. - Select
Add Donor Club Giving Tierfor each tier, then fill inRange Start:,Range End:, andDonor Club. - Select
Save Changes.
Result
After you save, Fundraising places the donor in the matching club the next time their giving is recalculated.
Warning
Your tiers must form one unbroken ladder with no gaps or overlaps. Each tier must start exactly one cent after the previous tier ends. If you type a starting amount by hand, Fundraising can refuse it even when it looks correct to the cent because of how the comparison is made. To avoid that issue, use the starting amount Fundraising fills in when you select Add Donor Club Giving Tier.
If your tiers leave a gap, such as no tier covering $500–$599, a donor whose total giving falls in that gap loses their club placement the next time giving is recalculated. Once automatic placement is turned on, you need at least one tier. If placement is enabled and the tier list is empty, your settings will not save.
Each tier's range includes both the start and end amounts. For tiers of $0–$999.99 and $1,000–$1,999.99, a donor who has given exactly $999 stays in the first tier, and a donor who has given exactly $1,000 moves into the second.
Soft-Credit Rules
Soft-credit rules automatically credit a donor's related people for a percentage of each gift.
- Under
Apply Soft Credits to Relationships, turn the switch on. - Select
Add Soft Credit Relationshipfor each rule, then choose aRelationship Type:, aDirection:, and aPercentage to Credit. - Select
Save Changes.
You can have only one rule for each relationship type. If both directions of a relationship should earn credit, such as crediting a gift both from a spouse and to a spouse, create one rule with direction Both. Rhythm refuses two separate rules with the same relationship type. Each percentage must be between 0 and 100, and once the switch is on, you need at least one complete rule.
Donation Product Fund Mapping
When Create Gifts from Donation Product Purchases is turned on, every donation product your Rhythm account currently sells needs a fund mapped to it.
- Under
Create Gifts from Donation Product Purchases, turn the switch on. - For each donation product row, choose a
Fund. You can also choose aCampaignand, if you choose a campaign, anAppeal:. - Select
Save Changes.
The Settings page shows one row for each donation product you currently sell, so you cannot create a duplicate mapping for the same product from this page. If you choose both a campaign and an appeal on a mapping row, the appeal must belong to the campaign you chose. Rhythm refuses mismatched pairs. While the switch is on, every row needs a fund, and one incomplete row prevents the full save from completing.
Warning
When gift creation is turned on, a donation product that is no longer sold loses its saved mapping the next time you save your settings. If you plan to bring a discontinued product back, note its fund mapping somewhere else first.
A donation product can appear in more than one place, and each place does something different. This page's mapping links a donation product's purchases to a fund and, optionally, a campaign and appeal so Rhythm knows how to build the resulting gift. The product itself, including details like its name and pricing, is managed separately under Fundraising & Gifts › Setup › Products.
A donation appears on a donor's record only when it creates a gift through a supported path: a mapped donation product purchase with this setting turned on, or a gift entered directly through Fundraising's own gift processing or manual entry. A donation recorded outside those paths, including one entered through another application, does not automatically create a gift or appear in the donor's giving history.
After you change a mapping or an override, process a small test gift through each affected giving path and confirm it lands on the fund, campaign, and appeal you expect. If it does not, the gift is still following another saved configuration somewhere, and you can narrow that down before it affects real donations.
Changes Apply Only Going Forward
Warning
Editing donor club tiers, automatic assignment settings, or donation fund mappings affects records only going forward. Existing donors keep their current club placement, and fulfilled donation orders are not converted into gifts, until you reprocess them separately. When you make either kind of change, a Heads up! warning appears on the Settings page to remind you to run the matching reprocessing step when you're ready.
Deleting Records Used in These Rules
You cannot delete a donor club named by a giving tier, a relationship type named by a soft-credit rule, or a fund, campaign, appeal, or giving process named by a donation mapping while the settings rule still uses it. Remove or change the rule first if you need to delete the underlying record.
