Every Rhythm account has one Fundraising settings record. These settings supply fallback values when a gift does not name its own giving process or fund. They also store the default checkout settings for donations, and you edit them only from this page.

Where to Find It

Go to Fundraising & Gifts › Setup › Settings. The page shows your account’s current settings, or a blank form if no one has saved them yet.

Prerequisites

  • You need Fundraising administrator access to open Setup pages.
  • Create at least one active giving process and one active fund before you save these settings, because both are required.

Set Your Default Giving Process and Fund

  1. Go to Fundraising & Gifts › Setup › Settings.
  2. Under Basic Settings, choose a Default Giving Process: from your active giving processes.
  3. Choose a Default Fund: from your active funds, grouped by category.
  4. Select Save Changes.

Result

Settings saved successfully. appears, and the form reloads. From then on, any gift without its own giving process or fund uses these two defaults.

Both fields are required because Fundraising uses them when a gift does not provide its own values. You cannot save your account’s Fundraising settings for the first time until at least one giving process and one fund exist.

Warning

Your donation pages will not work correctly until you save both a default giving process and a default fund here. If donors cannot reach a working giving page, check these two defaults first.

Your Portal Gift page uses one standard Fundraising donation form, and that form always shows the giving process you set as the Default Giving Process: here. When you change the default on this page, the Portal form updates automatically. You do not need to edit the Gift component in Portals and Microsites.

Default Checkout Settings

Farther down the page, you’ll find the default checkout settings: the business unit, merchant account, and bank account used to take payment when a giving process does not have its own checkout settings. A giving process can use its own checkout settings instead of these defaults; see Create and Manage Giving Processes. When it does, gifts made through that giving process use its checkout settings.

Tip

When you save this Settings page in the Console, the option to prompt for a donation at checkout stays turned off, no matter what you choose and save.

There is no account-level setting to remove the "Securely save this card on my account" checkbox from the public donation page. If you need it hidden, contact Support.

Changing the Defaults Later

Changing the default giving process or default fund affects future giving only. Gifts, pledges, and recurring gifts already recorded keep the giving process and fund they were created with, because Fundraising does not rewrite past records when you change a default here.

Why You Can't Delete Certain Funds or Giving Processes

When your Fundraising settings name a fund or giving process as a default, Fundraising prevents you from deleting that fund or giving process elsewhere in Setup. To delete it, first choose a different default on this page.

Permissions

You need Fundraising administrator access to Setup to view and save Fundraising settings. Portal members cannot create or change these settings under any circumstance.

Validation and Errors

What you see Why What to do
Access Denied dialog Your role does not have Fundraising administrator access to Setup Ask an administrator for access
"Unable to load setup" The settings record could not be loaded Reload the page
"Unable to save setup" Default Giving Process, Default Fund, or a checkout field is missing or invalid; or a record named elsewhere on the page no longer exists Fill in every required field with an existing, active record
Delete of a fund or giving process is refused elsewhere in Setup Your Fundraising settings still name that record as a default Choose a different default on this page first, then delete it
