When a donor gives, checkout sells a fundraising product. This is a product with no fixed price, and it belongs to one fund. Most funds need only one fundraising product, so Rhythm creates one automatically when you create the fund in Setup. The product uses the same identifier as the fund; see Funds. Use this page only when you need an extra product for a fund, such as for Console use, for a campaign or appeal to use a different product for a fund, or to recreate a fund's main product by hand.

Every donation uses a fundraising product behind the scenes. When someone gives through the Portal, the donation uses the fundraising product whose identifier matches the fund. For example, a fund with the identifier FAA-SCHOLARSHIP-FUND uses the product with that same identifier. You can create as many additional fundraising products as you need for the Console, but Portal donations to a fund always use the matching product.

Tip

Donation products in Finance & Billing are the legacy way to sell donations. If your account uses Fundraising & Gifts, create and manage donation-related products here instead so you use the current functionality.

Where to Find It

Go to Fundraising & Gifts › Setup › Products. This page lists every fundraising product in your account and shows which fund each product belongs to.

Prerequisites

  • You need Fundraising administrator access to open Setup pages.
  • Create and activate the fund before you create its product.

Create or Edit a Fundraising Product

  1. Go to Fundraising & Gifts › Setup › Products.
  2. Select Create Fundraising Product, or open an existing product to change it.
  3. Choose a Fund: from your active funds. Rhythm fills in the product's business unit, name, and identifier from the fund.
  4. Adjust Name: if you want the product label to be different from the fund name.
  5. Leave Status: on to make the product available, or switch it off to retire it.
  6. Select Save Changes.

Result

The product is saved in the chosen fund's business unit, and you cannot move it to a fund in a different business unit.

Warning

When you choose a fund, Rhythm fills in the product identifier from the fund's identifier, which is the same identifier the Portal uses for donations to that fund. If you then edit Name:, Rhythm rebuilds the identifier from the new name, so it no longer matches the fund. Leave the name unchanged when this product should remain the fund's main Portal-facing product. Change the name only when you intentionally create a second Console-only product for the same fund.

Why the Price Field Doesn't Stick

A fundraising product never has its own price because donors choose their gift amount. When you save, Rhythm discards any price, member price, or other currency price you entered. Apart from price, a fundraising product follows the same rules as other products in your account, including the identifier format. This means Rhythm can still refuse an otherwise valid save for reasons that are not related to price.

This form does not include the product's GL code. To change a donation product's GL code, edit it in the donation product's financial configuration area instead.

Delete a Fundraising Product

Rhythm will not delete a product while a campaign's or appeal's product override still names it. You can delete a fund's main product even when it is in active use; the Portal recreates a matching product automatically the next time someone gives to that fund.

You cannot undo a deletion from the Console.

Permissions

You need Fundraising administrator access to Setup to view, create, edit, or delete fundraising products.

Validation and Errors

What you see Why What to do
Access Denied dialog Your role does not have Fundraising administrator access to Setup Ask an administrator for access
The save is refused about the fund No fund was chosen Choose an active fund
The save is refused about the ID The product's identifier does not start with the fund's business unit Let Rhythm build the identifier from the chosen fund instead of typing your own
A duplicate identifier message appears A product with the fund's own identifier already exists Choose a different name so Rhythm suggests a new identifier, or edit the existing product instead
"Unable to delete Fundraising Product" A campaign's or appeal's product override still names this product Remove the override on the campaign or appeal first
