Every resume in Careers keeps its own copy of the job seeker's name and a few other details from their contact record. Rhythm refreshes that copy each time the resume is saved, then uses the copied details on the resume instead of reading the contact record live.
Why Rhythm Copies the Details
Rhythm copies the name onto the resume so it can show and search resumes without looking up the contact separately. On a job seeker's resume list in the Portal, and on the Resumes tab of a contact's record in the Console, each row uses the copy saved on the resume record. Rhythm also uses that copy to build a search key, so staff can find a person's resumes by name in one step, no matter how the name is capitalized.
The contact record belongs to CRM. See Create or Edit a Contact for how to enter and update a job seeker's contact details.
When the Copy Happens
Rhythm refreshes the copied details only when a resume is saved:
- A resume must name a contact that exists. Rhythm refuses to save a resume for a contact your Rhythm account cannot find.
- Later changes to the contact are not reflected on the resume until the resume is saved again. If a job seeker changes their name or other contact details after adding a resume, the resume still shows the details copied during its last save. A real save, meaning one that actually changes something, refreshes the copy; saving with no changes does not.
- The copied fields cannot be set directly. When you or the job seeker saves the resume, Rhythm replaces anything typed into those fields with the current contact details.
Why a Resume Might Be Missing from a Contact's List
Rhythm finds a contact's resumes by the name copied onto each resume. If a resume was created without a copied name, such as one added outside the normal save process, it does not appear in that contact's list. The resume still exists and can be opened by its identifier. If you can see that a resume exists but it does not appear on the contact's Resumes tab, this is the most likely reason.
Why You Cannot Delete a Contact with Resumes on File
You cannot delete a contact record while at least one resume names that contact and was saved through the normal save process, because that save recorded the relationship between the resume and the contact. This prevents a resume from pointing to a contact that no longer exists.
The Careers Console does not include an option to delete a contact's resumes for this purpose. To delete a contact who has resumes on file, the resumes must be removed first, either through the API or by having the job seeker delete them from their own resume list in the Portal. See Change a Contact's Status or Delete a Contact for the other items that can block a contact deletion.
Tip
A resume saved without a recorded relationship to its contact, such as one written by an import, does not block that contact's deletion. If you delete the contact, the resume then points at nobody.
Example
A job seeker uploads a resume and later changes their last name in their contact record. The resume still shows the old name until they open it and save a real change, such as replacing the file or using another action that actually updates the resume. After that save, the copied name and the search key built from it both update to match the current contact record.
