If your association sends email campaigns through Campaign Monitor, Rhythm adds each contact’s campaign activity to that contact’s activity timeline. You can see whether the contact opened the campaign, clicked a link, bounced, or unsubscribed.

Use this when you want to check whether a specific member received and engaged with a campaign before you follow up by phone or another channel. This does not show campaign-wide statistics, such as your overall open rate; use your Campaign Monitor account directly for those numbers.

Prerequisites

  • Campaign Monitor must have already reported the contact’s activity to Rhythm. You cannot request or refresh this from the Console because it depends on Campaign Monitor’s reporting timing.
  • You must be signed in to your Rhythm account to view a contact’s timeline. You do not need any separate permission beyond that.

Each contact in your Rhythm account already has an activity timeline that records many kinds of activity across Rhythm. This article covers only the Campaign Monitor email campaign activity that appears there. To open a contact’s timeline, see Review a Contact's 360 Page.

Find a Contact's Campaign Activity

  1. Open the contact’s 360 page and find their activity timeline.
  2. Look for Campaign Monitor campaign entries. Each entry summarizes what that contact did with that campaign, such as opened, clicked, bounced, or unsubscribed.
  3. Compare entries across campaigns if you want to see whether the contact’s engagement has changed over time.

Result

Every Campaign Monitor campaign activity Rhythm has recorded for that contact appears on their timeline, with opens, clicks, bounces, and unsubscribes summarized for each campaign.

New entries appear only after Campaign Monitor reports that the contact did something with a campaign, such as opening it or clicking a link. If you expect a new entry right after a send and no contacts have engaged yet, that is expected. The timeline reflects reported engagement, not the send itself.

What the Entries Do and Do Not Tell You

  • Only Campaign Monitor reports this. If your association uses a different email marketing platform, such as Mailchimp or Higher Logic, including Higher Logic Informz, that platform’s campaign activity does not appear here. That includes sent-email history or analytics from Higher Logic. A contact who reads every email you send through one of those other platforms will still show no campaign activity on this timeline because those platforms do not add those entries.
  • This is engagement activity, not a copy of the email itself. Rhythm shows that a contact opened, clicked, bounced, or unsubscribed. It does not import or display the full content of the marketing email as a record in the contact’s email history. Displaying Campaign Monitor messages there would be a product change, not something you can turn on today.
  • Sending your own email separately does not log it here either. If staff send or receive email through an outside mail client, including copying a Rhythm-generated address on the message, that message is not automatically matched and logged to the contact’s timeline. Today, this timeline reflects only Campaign Monitor’s own reporting, not general email correspondence.
  • Account sign-in and verification emails do not appear here. Signing in to an account is handled outside Rhythm, so account-only activity, such as a sign-in or a verification email, does not show up on a contact’s timeline or in their email-related activity. Visibility on the timeline starts once the contact’s actions create product data in Rhythm, such as an order or a membership application.
  • A connection is not required to keep showing history. If your association later disconnects Campaign Monitor, activity that Rhythm already recorded stays on the contact’s timeline. New Campaign Monitor activity is simply not added after that.
  • Entries are not necessarily in date order. They appear in the order Rhythm’s records return them, not in a guaranteed chronological order. Scan the full list instead of assuming the newest activity is first or last.
  • A bounce entry does not say why the message bounced. Rhythm does not show whether the bounce came from a full mailbox, an invalid address, or another cause. You cannot tell from the timeline alone whether the address needs updating or the recipient’s mailbox needs attention.
  • A count of zero is not distinguishable from no information. If an entry does not mention a specific kind of activity, you cannot tell whether the contact did zero of that action or Rhythm has nothing to report.
  • These entries are not currently searchable as query data. A Campaign Monitor timeline entry is not tagged with an activity type the way some other timeline activity is. Because of that, you cannot filter or query contacts by this campaign activity the way you can for other recorded activity. Use the timeline itself, contact by contact, rather than trying to build a query or report around it.

Tip

If you expect campaign activity for a contact and none appears, first confirm which marketing platform sent that campaign. Only Campaign Monitor activity reaches the timeline; every other connected marketing platform is silent here.
