Connecting a marketing platform to Rhythm lets apps like Events and CRM send contacts, campaign activity, and related data to Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, Higher Logic Informz, or ActiveCampaign.
The connection under System & Security › Integrations records that link. It stores the marketing platform account Rhythm connects to, along with the approval or credential Rhythm uses to reach it.
Two Ways to Connect
Your setup depends on the marketing platform you use:
| Platform | How you connect |
|---|---|
| Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor | Rhythm sends you to the platform’s sign-in page, where you approve Rhythm. The platform sends that approval back, and Rhythm stores it on the connection. |
| Higher Logic Informz, ActiveCampaign | You enter a key from that platform, and Rhythm stores the key directly on the connection record. |
For Campaign Monitor, approving Rhythm is not the final step. You also choose the client in your Campaign Monitor account that the connection should use, because one Campaign Monitor login can access more than one client.
Tip
When you change settings on an existing Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor connection, Rhythm sends you through that platform’s approval screen again before you can open the settings. Rhythm re-confirms its approval each time you edit the connection, so this is expected. You are re-approving the existing connection, not creating a second one.
How Many Connections You Can Have
Rhythm does not enforce a meaningful limit on how many connections your Rhythm account can have to the same marketing platform. In practice, most accounts use one connection at a time. The Console also hides the option to create a new Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor connection after your Rhythm account already has at least one. For Informz and ActiveCampaign, that option returns once you have two or more connections.
If your Rhythm account has more than one connection to the same platform, some areas assume there is only one. For example, the Campaign Monitor client list comes from whichever Campaign Monitor connection your Rhythm account lists first, not necessarily the connection you are working with. If you need more than one connection to the same platform, confirm with Rhythm support that the features you use behave as expected.
Connecting a CRM Through Zapier or Your Own API Call
Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, Higher Logic Informz, and ActiveCampaign are the marketing platforms Rhythm connects to directly. Rhythm does not offer a direct connector for a CRM such as HubSpot or Salesforce. Instead, Rhythm’s Zapier integration can pair with several CRM applications, including HubSpot and Salesforce, to do things like create a Rolodex contact or organization from Rhythm data. Zapier currently works one way by carrying data out of Rhythm; it does not write CRM changes back into Rhythm.
If you use Salesforce and do not want to go through Zapier, you can have the integration built on the Salesforce side. That integration calls the Rhythm API directly to push or update data in your Rhythm account.
What Removing a Connection Does — and Doesn’t Do
Deleting a Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor connection in Rhythm is the only way to disconnect it from the Console. Rhythm does not withdraw its own approval at the platform when you delete the connection. To fully revoke Rhythm’s access, go to Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor and remove Rhythm’s approved application from your account there as well. You might do this, for example, when you switch to a different marketing platform.
What Each Connection Keeps on Your Behalf
A connection stores only what Rhythm needs to reach your marketing platform account: the approval or key, and, for Campaign Monitor, the client you selected. Rhythm identifies itself to Mailchimp and Campaign Monitor with one application credential shared across every Rhythm account that connects to that platform. This affects only how the platform recognizes Rhythm, not anything you configure.
Higher Logic Informz does not currently send email engagement data, such as opens, bounces, or unsubscribes, back into Rhythm. Sending that data back is on Rhythm’s roadmap, but there is no committed date yet.
ActiveCampaign engagement works similarly because Rhythm does not match ActiveCampaign’s own marketing-email reporting. You can check an individual contact’s email sent and open status one record at a time, but Rhythm does not show total opens or other engagement totals across an ActiveCampaign campaign.
Tip
If you are investigating a bounced or apparently undelivered email, check the contact’s status in the connected marketing platform directly. The unsubscribe or suppression status there, or delivery evidence the platform recorded, can differ from what you expect to see in Rhythm.
