If your organization uses embedded analytics dashboards, some Rhythm pages let you build dashboards instead of only viewing dashboards supplied by your organization or Rhythm. This article explains how to open the builder and what you can do there.
Use this when you want to create a new dashboard or change an existing one on a page where your administrator has allowed building. This does not cover viewing a dashboard someone else built or asking questions about one in plain language; see View an Embedded Dashboard and Ask the AI Dashboard Agent a Question for those tasks.
Prerequisites
- Your organization must have turned on the dashboard for the page and allowed building there. A page can show a dashboard even when no one is allowed to build on it.
- You need permission to create embedded dashboards. Your administrator grants this through your Console role; permission to view a dashboard does not let you build one.
- The page needs a starting dashboard to build from, either the dashboard your organization or Rhythm has already chosen for the page, or one the page itself names.
Open the Dashboard Builder
- Open the Rhythm page with the dashboard you want to build or change.
- Look for the option that opens the dashboard builder on that page. You only see it when your organization has allowed building there and you have permission to create dashboards.
- Use the builder to create a new dashboard or change the dashboard it opens with.
- Save your changes from within the builder when you are done.
Result
The builder opens with the page's starting dashboard, so you can create additional dashboards or change what is already there. Your changes update the underlying analytics content, not just your personal view of the page.
What You Can and Cannot Do in the Builder
- Only two modes exist for a page's dashboard: viewing and building. You cannot build and use the AI dashboard agent in the same session. If a page offers both, use them separately.
- Holding the create permission is enough to also change dashboards in the builder. Rhythm does not require a separate editing permission after you are allowed to create; if you can open the builder, you can change what is there.
- Your access to your organization's shared analytics folders through the builder stays at viewer level, whatever the page requests. Building your own dashboard does not give you manager-level control over dashboards your colleagues have already shared.
Tip
If you can view a dashboard on a page but do not see an option to build one, ask your administrator to check that building is allowed for that page and that your Console role includes permission to create embedded dashboards. You need both.
If You Can't Open the Builder
- There's no build option on the page at all. Your organization has most likely not allowed building on that page, even if the page shows a dashboard. Ask your administrator to turn building on for the page.
- You see the dashboard but the build option is missing or refused. You most likely do not have permission to create embedded dashboards. Ask your administrator to grant it through your Console role.
- The page has no dashboard configured at all. You cannot build from a page that has no starting dashboard. Ask your administrator to choose one for the page first, even if you plan to replace it in the builder.
