Function types classify functions across your whole account, not just one event. They are labels such as Gala, Meal, or Tour that staff can choose when they create a function. Because the list is shared account-wide, a type you create for one event’s dinner is available to every other event too.
Prerequisites
You need the permission your administrator grants for function type setup. Without it, you won’t see the Function Types page or its actions.
Where to Find It
Go to Setup › Functions › Function Types. This opens Manage Function Types, where you manage the account-wide list of function types.
- Create Function Type opens a blank form.
- The clone icon on a row opens a new type copied from that one, without its identifier.
- The edit icon opens that type so you can change it.
- The delete icon removes the type after no function anywhere uses it.
The Settings
| Setting | Options | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name: | Any text | Empty | Required. Staff see this name wherever they choose a function type |
| ID: | Letters, digits, underscores, hyphens | Suggested from the name | Required. You can’t change it after you save |
| Status: | Active, Inactive | Active | Controls whether staff can choose the type on new functions |
Dependencies and Precedence
- The Create or Edit Function form offers only active function types. If you deactivate a type that a function already uses, that function keeps the type, but the type no longer appears for new functions or other functions.
Change Impact and How to Revert
- Deactivating a type stops it from appearing on the function form for new selections. It doesn’t change any function that already has that type, and Rhythm doesn’t warn you that functions still use it.
- Editing a function that has an inactive type requires you to choose a different, active type before you can save. The function form only lists active types, including when it checks the function’s current type.
- Deleting a type is permanent and cannot be undone from Setup.
Warning
You can’t delete a function type while any function, in any event, still uses it. This includes a function used only once in a long-past event. Rhythm refuses the delete until you change that function to another type or remove it. A coupon that names a deleted function type is not updated and keeps pointing at the type that no longer exists.
Permissions
You need the permission your administrator grants for function type setup. There’s no separate permission for creating, editing, or deleting types within that setup area.
Validation and Errors
- If you save a type without a name, Rhythm refuses the save and lists an error above the save buttons.
- If you delete a type that a function still uses, Rhythm refuses the delete, the Console shows an error, and the type stays in the list.
