Opening a directory result shows that person’s or organization’s entry, with the published details arranged in the directory’s design.
Open an Entry
- From the directory’s search results, select the entry you want to view.
Result
The entry replaces the results and shows your place in the list, such as “3 of 12 results.” Use Back to Search Results to return to the full results list.
What a Contact’s Entry Shows
Unless your association created a custom layout for this directory, a contact’s entry uses Rhythm’s ready-made card, which can include:
- Photo, name, job title, and location, including city, state, and postal code
- Email address, shown as a link that opens your own mail program
- Credentials and similar published fields
- The organization the contact belongs to, plus that organization’s parent organization, if it has one
- Membership information, when the association also tracks membership for contacts
You only see fields that the directory is set to publish and that the ready-made card includes. Everything else on the record stays private.
Directory visibility and an organization’s contact list are controlled separately. A contact can appear in the contact directory and come up in search without being linked under a specific organization’s contacts. If a newly added person appears in directory search but not under an organization’s contacts on Manage Your Organization's People, the organization link usually has not been made yet.
What an Organization’s Entry Shows
An organization’s entry on Rhythm’s ready-made card can include its logo, name, location, type, description, phone and fax numbers, website, and social links, along with its parent organization if it has one. The entry does not name or list the organization’s contacts. The page uses those contacts only as identifiers to display the entry correctly, and it never shows them to you.
Sending a Message
If messaging is turned on for the directory, a contact’s entry shows Send a Message so you can write to the listed person without seeing their address.
An Organization’s Entry Cannot Actually Send a Message
An organization directory can also show a Send a Message button when the association turns on messaging for it, but sending never succeeds from an organization directory. If you see this button on an organization’s entry, expect the message to fail. The association needs to remove the button, or you should use another way to reach the organization.
Comments and Ratings
If your association has turned on comments for a directory, signed-in members can leave, edit, or delete their own comments on an entry. On an organization directory with ratings turned on, members can also leave a star rating, and the entry shows the organization’s average rating after it has at least one rating.
If an Entry Will Not Open
If the record behind the entry cannot be read, such as when it no longer exists, you see a message that the entry could not be retrieved. Back to Search Results still takes you back to your results.
