Your association offers courses, such as classroom sessions, webinars, or on-demand training, through scheduled or on-demand offerings. When you register, you choose an offering, pay for your seat, and, if exams are included, decide whether to book those exams at the same time.
When to Use This
Use these steps to buy a seat in a course offering, whether or not the course is tied to a certification. If you’re looking for courses in a certification program, start from the program overview or the course directory your association provides in the Portal. This article explains what happens after you reach a course registration form. To review a registration after you submit it, see View Your Activities and Credits for credits earned from a course, or use My Courses as described below to check the registration status.
Prerequisites
- You’re signed in to the Portal, and your sign-in is linked to a contact record.
- The course offering you want is still open: it isn’t full, you meet its eligibility rules, and you haven’t already registered for it.
Register for a Course Offering
You always register through a specific offering, because Rhythm needs to know which course session or on-demand option to add you to. Buying a bundle, membership package, or other product that includes the course does not register you for an offering by itself. You still need to complete registration for the offering you want.
- Open the course registration page from a course listing, a program page, or a direct link your association gave you.
- If the course offers more than one registration process, choose one.
- If you’re asked to confirm your contact details first, review and update them, then continue.
- Complete the registration form. In the offering list, choose the offering you want; full offerings are marked and can’t be selected.
- If the offering has exam sittings attached, choose the sittings you also want to register for, or leave them all unchecked.
- Continue to checkout. Review the price, which includes the course seat fee and any fee for each exam sitting you chose. Each offering has one price for you to pay — the regular price or, if you qualify, the member price — rather than several fee options to choose from.
- Complete payment.
Result
Your registration is saved. After payment is complete, you’re taken to your list of course registrations (My Courses). Any exam sittings you chose are booked as separate exam registrations linked to this course registration.
Warning
If your course’s confirmation email is set up as a general order confirmation instead of a course-specific one, it may not include the offering’s date, time, or location. Check the registration in My Courses for those details.
Tip
Before you finish paying, your registration is saved as a draft so your choices are protected if payment fails partway through. If you leave before completing checkout, that draft registration stays on your account with status Draft. It doesn’t hold a seat for you, and it doesn’t expire on its own.
Tip
If registration doesn’t go through, clear your browser cache, confirm you’re not connected through a VPN, and try again. Both can interfere with checkout.
Tip
If your association also registers people for this course through Elevate, register through the Rhythm Portal instead. Some registration settings, including course capacity, aren’t fully synchronized between the two systems, so registering in Rhythm keeps enforcement accurate.
Why an Offering Might Not Be Offered to You
The registration form lists only the course offerings that are currently available to you and that you’re eligible for. An offering that’s already full still appears, but you can’t select it. If you open a direct link and that offering has filled up or you no longer meet its eligibility rules, it won’t be pre-selected, and you’ll need to choose a different offering if one is still open.
The course you want also needs an upcoming offering that matches what you’re looking for, such as a specific location. If every offering of that course has already started or finished, registration can’t continue. Once an offering’s start date has passed, there’s currently no setting that allows registration anyway, and there’s no way to keep a course open for rolling or continuous enrollment past its official start date. Reaching the start date is usually what closes registration, but it isn’t the only factor. Eligibility, capacity, and publishing settings also affect whether an offering is available to you, so a registration problem isn’t always caused by the date alone.
Warning
Offering eligibility is checked at checkout, not just on the registration form. If you no longer meet an offering’s rules — for example, if the offering is limited to active members — your order is refused before payment, even if you started checkout while you still qualified. In some past cases, this check didn’t run and allowed an ineligible person to complete registration; that has since been corrected.
Registering for Exams with a Course
Some course offerings have exam sittings linked to them, so you can book the course and the exam in one purchase. You’ll see only the sittings tied to the offering you chose. If a linked sitting has no fee of its own, choosing it adds nothing to your order, but it still registers you for that sitting once the course is fulfilled. A sitting that has since been removed is left out of both your order and your booking.
Why You Can't Register Twice for the Same Offering
After you hold a paid seat in a course offering — registered, attended, or completed — you can’t buy a second paid seat in that same offering. If you try, your order is refused before payment, with a message that says you’re not allowed to register for the same offering more than once. You can still register for the same course again when it’s available as a different offering, such as a later monthly session. The restriction only blocks a second registration in the same offering. Several people can still have draft registrations for the same offering at the same time, because a draft doesn’t count against the offering’s capacity. Only a paid seat does.
Warning
Capacity is checked when the registration form loads and not again when an order is placed. Because of that, two people can occasionally complete checkout for what looked like the last seat if they start at nearly the same time. When that happens, a course can end up with slightly more paid registrations than its configured capacity.
No Group Registration
Certification course registration doesn’t currently support registering someone else, or several attendees, in a single transaction. Each registrant needs their own sign-in and their own registration.
View and Manage Your Course Registrations
- Open your My Courses page in the Portal.
- Review the list. Each row shows the course date, course name, and registration status.
- Select a course name to open that registration.
Result
My Courses lists every course registration on your record, in every status, including drafts from checkout you didn’t finish and registrations you later cancelled.
Tip
If a registration you submitted is declined and returned to Draft status, it still appears on My Courses. There’s currently no action there to update or remove it yourself.
For an on-demand course, the Date column on My Courses can be blank even though the registration has a date. Open the registration and check Date & Time to see it.
When you open a registration, you’ll see its course, training provider, location, registration number, date, and current status. The date and time shown are when you registered, not when the course itself takes place. Those are separate fields, and the time shown can occasionally be off even when the date is right. This page doesn’t link to the course offering or show its full start and end time, so check the course listing elsewhere in the Portal for the course schedule. For a virtual course, the location shown here comes from an address field rather than a join link. You may see address-style text, sometimes even “No address provided,” instead of a clear virtual indicator, and there’s no field here for the class access URL.
If exam sittings were booked with the course, they’re listed with a link to each exam registration. Any documents your association attached to the course or the specific offering appear below, where you can view or download them. You can’t add, change, or remove documents from this page.
