When you build a member-facing page in the Portal page designer, Awards gives you ready-made blocks you can drag onto the page. Each block loads one Awards screen, such as browsing awards, applying, or nominating someone. This article explains what each Awards block shows and which settings change the published page.
For the shared steps to build and publish Portal pages, use your Portal documentation. This article covers only the Awards blocks in the designer.
What It Controls
Awards blocks appear in the designer’s block panel under Awards & Continuing Education. When you drag a block onto a page, the designer adds the matching Awards element. When a member opens the published page, that element loads the related Awards screen.
Some blocks also have settings you fill in after you place the block.
Prerequisites
You need the Portal access required to build and publish pages in the page designer. Awards does not add a separate permission for this designer category.
Where to Find It
Open the page designer from Portals & Microsites › Pages, then select Edit on a page. In the block panel, find Awards & Continuing Education. This category appears in every Rhythm account’s designer after Awards is installed, even when the account is not actively using Awards.
Tip
The designer shows a placeholder icon and label for an Awards block on the canvas. It does not show a live preview of award data while you build the page.
The Blocks
| Block | What it shows to a member | Reads its record from |
|---|---|---|
| Awards List Awards | Open awards in your Rhythm account that members can browse | No page parameter — lists every open award |
| Awards View Award | One award’s name, type, and description | The page’s own id parameter |
| Awards Submit Application | The form to apply for an award | The page’s own id parameter (an award) |
| Awards My Applications | The member’s own applications | No page parameter |
| Awards View Application | One application’s details | The page’s own id parameter |
| Awards Edit Application | The form to change a submitted application | The page’s own id parameter |
| Awards Submit Nomination | The form to nominate someone for an award | The page’s own id parameter (an award) |
| Awards Submit Reference | The form to submit a reference | The page’s own id parameter |
| Awards My Awards | Awards the member has received | No page parameter |
A tenth block, Edit Recipient Info, is also defined, but it conflicts with List Awards, which is registered first. Because of that conflict, the block panel most likely shows only the nine blocks above and does not include a separate Edit Recipient Info block. The screen that block would open is also an unfinished placeholder, so there is nothing useful to place even if the block appears.
Awards My Awards always shows a member's award status, award name, and award date in a fixed table. It does not show the recipient category the member won in. There is no setting to change which columns appear or to remove any of them, including Status.
Every Awards block uses the same icon, so use the labels to tell them apart in the panel. The block labels do not exactly match the ready-made page names in your Portal. For example, Awards List Awards places the page your Portal calls “Browse Awards.” Match a block to a page by what the block shows, not by the exact wording of its label.
Limiting the List Awards Block to Certain Award Types
The List Awards block has one setting that reliably works: Filter Award Type IDs:. Enter the award type identifiers you want to show, separated by commas, such as SCHOLARSHIP,ACHIEVEMENT. Leave the field blank to show open awards of every type.
Warning
This field is free text. It has no picker and does not validate against the award types in your Rhythm account. If you enter an identifier that does not exist, the block shows no awards for that type and does not tell you the identifier is wrong. Look up the exact award type identifiers before you fill in this field.
This filter chooses which award types to include. It does not add another grouping level above the award type headings. If you want separate sections for Scholarships, Grants, and Awards, that structure is not available through standard configuration today.
Settings That Do and Don’t Work
Some blocks offer a Route (Back):, Route (Success):, or Route (Cancel): setting. These settings are Portal page addresses that send the member somewhere after they finish. Whether the route changes the published page depends on the block.
| Block | Setting | Works? | Default when left blank |
|---|---|---|---|
| Awards View Award | Route (Back) | Yes | /award/browse |
| Awards My Applications | Route (View Application) | Yes | /awards/applications/view |
| Awards Submit Application | Route (Cancel) | Yes (used for both completing and cancelling) | /awards/view/<award id> |
| Awards Submit Application | Route (Success) | No effect | — |
| Awards Submit Nomination | Route (Success), Route (Cancel) | Yes | /awards/view/<award id> |
| Awards Submit Reference | Route (Success), Route (Cancel) | Yes | /awards/view/<the reference's award id> |
| Awards My Awards | Route (Success), Route (Cancel) | No effect | — |
| Awards View Application, Awards Edit Application | Route (Success), Route (Cancel) | No effect | — |
If you fill in a setting marked “No effect,” the designer saves the value, but the screen does not read it. The published page does not change, and no warning appears.
The designer also leaves out a few useful settings, so those blocks always use their built-in defaults. These include the routes My Awards and My Applications use when a member opens an award. They also include a way to limit My Awards or My Applications to particular award types. Unlike the List Awards filter, that setting would exclude the listed types rather than restrict the list to them, but the designer does not offer a field for it.
Why a Link Might Open the Wrong Award
Blocks such as View Award, Submit Application, and Submit Nomination do not have a setting where you choose the award they show. They read the award identifier from the page’s own address. If a member reaches a different award than you expect, the block usually is not the cause. Check these instead:
- The address of the Portal page where the block is placed. If the page address does not include the intended award’s identifier, the block loads the identifier that is there.
- Any Portal menu item or link that sends members to that page. If a menu item still includes an older award’s identifier, update the menu item to the correct award address. You do not need to change the page or the block.
