You cloned a space, Rhythm showed an error such as Unable to clone space, and the new space exists but seems to be missing setup from the source space.
Scope
This article applies to spaces created with Clone an Existing Space. It does not apply to spaces created from scratch, because Rhythm has nothing to copy.
Is the New Space Usable?
Yes, but review it carefully before you rely on it. When one part of a clone fails, Rhythm keeps the items it already copied instead of undoing the whole clone. The new space remains in place, so it may include some complete setup and some missing pieces.
Likely Causes
1. One Kind of Record Did Not Copy
Check. Compare the new space with the source space one area at a time, such as submission types, processes, review settings, rounds, buckets, or teams.
Fix. Recreate the missing pieces by hand in the new space, using the source space as your guide. Rhythm cannot retry only the missing part of a clone; the clone either finishes cleanly or leaves a partial result.
2. The Clone Reported an Error and Stopped
Check. If the Console showed an error such as Unable to clone space when you started the clone, note the message and about when it appeared.
Fix. The new space that Rhythm created before the error still exists, so you can use it, complete it by hand, or delete it and start over. If you delete it, copied records such as its own submission types, processes, and similar setup can block deletion the same way they would in any space that still contains those records. Remove those records first if Rhythm refuses the deletion.
3. The Clone Failed with an Access-Denied Error
Check. In some cases, cloning a space fails with an access-denied error, even for an administrator who would normally have access to every setting.
Fix. As an interim step, try cloning again with a different name for the new space, or build the space from scratch instead of cloning while this is looked into. Contact Support with the exact error and the names of both spaces if it keeps happening.
Before You Contact Support
Gather:
- the source space name and the new space name;
- about when you started the clone and when the error appeared;
- which records or settings seem to be missing from the new space;
- the exact error message, if Rhythm showed one.
When to Contact Support
Contact Support if you cannot tell what is missing after comparing the two spaces, if recreating the missing setup by hand is impractical because there is too much of it, or if the same clone fails again after you retry it.
