A staff member can have full Fundraising access, including Fundraising Administrator, and still be unable to open the Queries menu item or drill into a Fundraising overview figure tile.

Scope

This article applies to the Fundraising Query Center and to any figure tile drill-down that opens it. It does not apply to record pages, gift or pledge processing, or other day-to-day Fundraising work, which use Fundraising access levels as expected.

Why This Happens

Warning

The Fundraising Query Center does not check Fundraising permissions when someone opens it. It checks a Membership query permission instead. Fundraising’s three access levels — Read Only, Day-to-Day User, and Administrator — do not include that Membership permission, so a staff member with only Fundraising access cannot open the Query Center or any drill-down that leads to it.

Fundraising has its own permission key for this purpose, but the Query Center does not check it. Granting that key to a staff member does not change whether they can open the Query Center.

Turning the Queries menu item on or off in your Rhythm account only controls whether the menu item appears. If a staff member has the Membership permission the Query Center checks, they can still open the Query Center from its direct address when the menu item is hidden. If they do not have that Membership permission, the Query Center still refuses them.

What to Check

  1. Confirm the staff member has one of Fundraising’s three access levels. This controls whether they can view Fundraising records, but it does not control access to the Query Center.
  2. Check whether the staff member has a Membership access level that grants the Membership query permission. This is separate from any Fundraising access.
  3. If they have a Fundraising level but not a qualifying Membership level, that mismatch is why they cannot open the Query Center.

The Fix

Grant the staff member a Membership access level that includes the Membership query permission, in addition to their Fundraising access level. The two grants are separate: neither one replaces the other, and more Fundraising access alone, including Fundraising Administrator, will not open the Query Center.

Setup, Settings, or Maintenance Refused Instead

If the staff member cannot open Setup, Settings, or Maintenance instead of the Query Center, they are running into a different access rule. Only the Fundraising Administrator access level opens those three pages. See Staff Access to Fundraising for what each Fundraising access level grants, and Fundraising Permissions Reference for the underlying permission keys.
