Some job board and application actions are available only through the Careers API, not through a Console or Portal screen. This reference explains how staff search job boards, apply or record an application for a job seeker, and read, list, change, or delete application records. It also explains how the resume field behaves on an application.
Search a Job Board as Staff
When you are signed in as staff or using a service identity, you can search a job board through the staff API address instead of the public Portal address. The search works the same way as the public search for that board, with the same filters and the same retained results.
Apply to a Job on a Job Seeker's Behalf
Staff or an integration can submit an application for a job seeker, just as the job seeker would on the Portal. The board must accept online applications, the posting must have an application address, and the contact, posting, board, and resume you name must all exist. Rhythm does not check whether the resume belongs to the contact you are applying for, and the posting does not need to be active or listed on the board.
Record an Application Directly, Without Applying
You can create an application record directly without going through the apply step. This requires only that the contact and posting exist; Rhythm does not check the board, copy a resume, or send an email to the employer. Rhythm also does not check whether the resume address belongs to the contact. If you create the same contact-and-posting pair more than once, each call adds another record instead of replacing the previous one.
Read, List, Change, and Delete Application Records as Staff
| Ability | What to know |
|---|---|
| Read an application | Look up one application record by its identifier |
| List a contact's applications | Returns the contact's applications, oldest first, one page at a time. If a contact has many applications, you may need more than one call to see them all |
| Change an application | Change any field, including which contact or posting the application names |
| Delete an application | Removes only the application record. It does not delete the public copy of the resume the application points to |
Portal job seekers have narrower access to these actions. They can create an application only for a contact they are allowed to act for, and they can read one application at a time by its identifier. This API does not provide a Portal-side list of all of the job seeker's applications.
Tip
Most staff review a contact's applications from the contact's record in the Console instead of calling this list directly.
The Resume Field Behaves Like an Uploaded File
When you submit a resume address with an application, Rhythm handles it like a normal uploaded file instead of saving it as a plain text value.
