You are recording a sponsorship manually, but the opportunity you need is not in the Opportunity: list. On an existing sponsorship, the field may also appear blank even though an opportunity is attached.

Scope

This applies to Sponsorship & Benefits › Sponsorships › Manually Create Sponsorship. Staff use this form to enter a sponsorship sold outside checkout, such as by phone or by cheque, or to correct an existing sponsorship. It does not apply to the Portal, where sponsors choose from the same online catalog they normally see.

Likely Causes

1. The Opportunity Is Not Marked for Online Sale, or Its Selling Window Has Closed

Why this happens. This form only shows opportunities that are on sale in the Portal today. In other words, it uses the same list a sponsor would see if they were buying online right now. If an opportunity is only sold in person, or its online selling window has not started or has already ended, it is not included in the list.

Check. Open the opportunity record and confirm that it is available for online sale. Then compare its selling dates with today’s date.

Fix. If the opportunity should be available on this form, turn on online sale or adjust its selling window. See Create or Edit a Sponsorship Opportunity. If the opportunity should never be sold online, you can still finish recording the sponsorship. Enter it without selecting that opportunity, and note the correct opportunity somewhere else, such as the notes field, until the record can be corrected another way.

2. You Are Editing a Sponsorship Whose Opportunity Has Since Gone Off Sale

Why this happens. The same online-sale rule applies when you reopen an existing sponsorship to correct it. If the original opportunity is no longer on sale in the Portal, the Opportunity: field opens blank because that option is no longer available in the list.

Check. Find the opportunity that was originally recorded, either from your own records or from the sponsorship’s history, and confirm whether it is still on sale online.

Fix. If you only need to update other sponsorship details, you can generally leave Opportunity: unchanged and save your edits. You only need to select an opportunity again if you are changing which opportunity the sponsorship is for. If you do need to change it, turn the opportunity back on for online sale first, make your correction, and then return it to its intended sale settings.

3. The List Did Not Load

Why this happens. The opportunity list must finish loading before the form appears. If the list fails to load, the form stays on its loading indicator without showing an error message, instead of opening as an empty or usable form.

Check. If the form never finishes loading, the list likely failed to load. This is different from a single missing opportunity.

Fix. Reload the page and try again. If it keeps happening, contact Support.

When to Contact Support

Contact Support if the opportunity list does not finish loading after more than one attempt, or if an opportunity that is clearly on sale online today still does not appear. Include the opportunity’s name, whether you were creating a new sponsorship or editing an existing one, and roughly when you tried.
