Pages, menus, site settings, and installed features belong to one site at a time. If your Rhythm account has more than one site, the Portals Console shows and edits content for one site at a time: the current site. Use this article to confirm which site you are working on, switch to another site, or open the Console directly on a named site.

See and Change the Current Site

On most Portals screens, a bar near the top shows Site: followed by the current site’s name. The site name opens that site’s live address, and a (change) link appears beside it.

  1. Select (change) beside the current site’s name.
  2. In the Change Site dialog, choose another site.
  3. Select Save Changes.

Result

Your full browser window reloads to the same screen, with the site you chose now selected.

Warning

Saving a new site reloads the entire browser window. Any unsaved work on the screen behind the dialog is discarded without warning, so save your work before you switch sites.

Your account’s primary site is its main site, rather than an event microsite or another secondary site. When you need to return to it, select it from the same (change) control.

How Rhythm Picks a Site for You

Rhythm remembers the current site in your browser for your Rhythm account, not for each staff member. If two staff members use the same browser in the same account, they share the same remembered site. If the same staff member uses two different computers, each computer keeps its own choice. If you work in more than one account in the same browser, Rhythm keeps a separate current site for each account.

When your browser has no remembered site, Rhythm automatically chooses your account’s first site in name order without notifying you. This happens the first time you open Portals, or after you clear your browser data. If you land on a site you did not expect, use (change) to switch to the site you meant to use.

If your account has no sites, Rhythm sends you to Setup › Sites and shows this alert: "Heads up! No sites have been configured - you will need to configure at least one site before using this application." See Sites and Event Microsites Explained to learn what a site is and how your account’s first site gets created.

Open the Console Directly on a Named Site

You can send a colleague a link that opens Portals on a specific site. Add ?siteId=<id> to the Console’s root address, and Rhythm makes that site current before anything else loads.

Tip

Only the root address reads ?siteId=. If you add it to any other Portals address, Rhythm ignores it. Rhythm also ignores the identifier if it does not match one of your account’s sites, and your browser uses whichever site it would normally choose.

Why This Matters Day to Day

Most Portals screens show only the current site’s content, including pages, menus, site settings, installed features, and Setup screens. If a page or menu you expected is missing from a list, check which site you are working on before assuming it was deleted. It may belong to a different site, so switching to the right site is usually the fix.

A site is one member-facing web site your association runs on its own domain, with a single purpose such as a member portal, a donor portal, or an event microsite; every page, menu, setting, and installed feature belongs to exactly one site.
