The switcher moves your Console to another Rhythm account or sandbox without signing you out. Each account or sandbox has its own data and settings. Many organizations have more than one, such as a live account, a sandbox, or a training copy. Use the switcher to open your sandbox, return to your live account, or move to another account your organization owns.
When to Use This
- You want to test a change in your sandbox before you make it in your live account.
- You signed in and landed in the wrong account or sandbox. Rhythm opens the account or sandbox you last used in this browser; see Sign In and Choose Your Account.
- Your organization just created or refreshed a sandbox, and you need to open it.
- You were signed in to a disabled account or sandbox and cannot reach the Console. Contact Rhythm Support. In observed cases, Support temporarily re-enabled the disabled account or sandbox so the person could sign in and switch to the live account. An administrator could then change that person's default account on their user profile to keep it from happening again.
The switcher shows only accounts and sandboxes your organization owns. A name in the switcher does not give you access by itself; your organization's security settings still decide which ones you can open.
Before You Begin
Prerequisites
- You are signed in to the Console, and the top bar shows the name of your current account or sandbox.
- Your organization's security settings give you access to the account or sandbox you want to open. The list can still include accounts or sandboxes you cannot open because Rhythm checks access after you choose one.
- Save your work before you switch. The Console reloads completely and discards anything unsaved on the page without warning.
Switch Using the Recent List
Use the recent list when you have opened the account or sandbox before. It is the quickest option.
- Select Top navigation bar › [current account name] to open the drop-down panel.
- The panel shows your current account or sandbox first, then up to seven recently used accounts or sandboxes, with the most recent first. Each recent choice shows its logo or Rhythm's logo, the name, and when you last used it, such as 3 days ago. While the list loads, the panel shows a loading message.
Tip
Rhythm staff set the logo shown for your account here. To change it, send Rhythm Support the replacement image and ask them to update it.
- Click the account or sandbox you want. The switch starts immediately and does not ask you to confirm. :::
Switch to Any Account or Sandbox Your Organization Owns
Use this option when the account or sandbox is not in your recent list, such as the first time you open a new or refreshed sandbox.
- Select Top navigation bar › [current account name], then select Choose Another... at the bottom of the panel. The switch dialog opens.
- Click the Destination list. It shows a placeholder until you choose an account or sandbox. After you open it, wait for the list to load.
- Start typing the name to narrow the list. Each choice shows the name, a dash, and the ID, for example Example Association Sandbox - exampleassoc-sandbox. If your organization has more than one similarly named account or sandbox, use the name and ID together. After switching, use the Sandbox mode label to confirm you landed in the right one.
- Choose the account or sandbox.
- Click the dialog's switch button. To leave without switching, click Cancel, click the close icon, or press Escape.
Result
The dialog or panel closes, and a Switching... just a moment... notice covers the page. The Console reloads in the account or sandbox you chose and opens the home page of the Console you were using. For example, if you switch from the Membership Console, you land on Membership's home page in the account or sandbox you chose. A notice confirms the switch: We've successfully logged you into [account or sandbox name]. The top bar shows the new name, and a sandbox also shows Sandbox mode.
The account or sandbox you chose moves to the top of your recent list, so it is one click away next time. The next sign-in on this browser also opens that account or sandbox.
Things to Know
- The page you were on is not kept. After the switch, you always land on the home page of the current Console in the account or sandbox you chose. Reopen the page you need.
- Other tabs are not reloaded. Tabs already open in the same browser keep showing the old account or sandbox until you reload them. Reload or close those tabs so you do not work in the wrong place by mistake.
- The recent list is empty at first. It fills as you switch, and your current account or sandbox is not included in the recent section.
- A recent entry is not a promise of access. The recent list reflects the accounts and sandboxes you have visited. You and Rhythm Support cannot refresh or remove an entry from it. An account or sandbox you used before can still appear after your access changes. If you choose it, you see the refusal described below.
- Choosing your current account in the dialog is allowed. It simply reloads the Console in the same account or sandbox.
- An application may not be available in the new account or sandbox. The switch keeps you in the same Console you were using. If the account or sandbox you chose does not let you use that application, you see You do not have sufficient privileges to access this application. Open an application you can use from the application list.
- If the Console opens or returns to the wrong account or sandbox after you switch, an intermittent issue tied to cached data can send you back into an account or sandbox you already used, particularly right after opening an application. Reselect the account or sandbox you meant to use and try again so you can continue working.
If the Switch Does Not Work
| What You See | What It Means | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| An Access Denied dialog with this message: You do not have sufficient security privileges to access [account ID]. Please check with your administrator. | You do not have access to that account or sandbox. | Click OK. You stay in your original account or sandbox, and nothing is lost. Ask your administrator for access, then open Choose Another... again and choose the account or sandbox. |
| A notice saying the switch was not possible, with an error message. | Rhythm could not open that account or sandbox. For example, it might be disabled, being deleted, or still being set up. If you were sent to a disabled sandbox because it was set as your default account, ask your administrator to change your default account to your live account so you do not land there again. | Close the notice. You are still in your original account or sandbox. Try again, choose another account or sandbox, or contact Rhythm Support so the disabled account or sandbox can be re-enabled. |
| A red Form Errors card saying no valid value was entered. | The switch button was used without a valid account or sandbox selected. | Choose an account or sandbox in Destination. The button is unavailable until you do. |
| The account or sandbox you want is not in the recent list. | You have not switched to it before, or not recently. | Use Choose Another... and type its name. |
| The account or sandbox is not in the Destination list either. | The list includes only your organization's accounts and sandboxes. A newly requested account or sandbox can also fail to finish being created when its ID matches one Rhythm already has; creation does not complete until a unique ID is used. | Check the name with your administrator. For a new sandbox, confirm it has been created. If it was refreshed or re-created, ask whether you should use a new sandbox under a new name instead of the one you used before. |
| The Destination list keeps showing a loading spinner. | Rhythm could not load the list. | Close the dialog, reload the page, and try again. |
| The top bar says you are not signed in to any account and nothing opens. | No account or sandbox was chosen at sign-in. | See Sign In and Choose Your Account. |
| An error mentioning Failed to contact the origin while switching or moving between modules. | Observed cases traced this to a temporary incident with Rhythm's underlying hosting infrastructure rather than a problem with your account or sandbox. | Wait a few minutes and try again. If it continues, contact Rhythm Support. |
| You can sign in, but the Console works while Log in to Portal or other portal links do not, right after a new sandbox is created. | The Console side of a new sandbox can finish being copied before the portal side finishes its own setup. | Wait and try again. If portal access still does not work after a while, contact Rhythm Support. |
When you contact Support, include your user name, the account or sandbox you were in, the account or sandbox you tried to open, the time, and the exact message.
