Signing in opens the Rhythm Console for one organization, so everything you see and update belongs there. This article explains how Rhythm chooses the account you start in and what a successful sign-in looks like. It also explains how to sign out, what to do when you return to the sign-in page, and what to check when a different organization opens.
When to Use This
Use this article when you start work in the Console, open an organization you did not expect, or keep getting asked to sign in. For example, you might open your sandbox when you expected your live account. To move to another account or sandbox after you sign in, see Switch to Another Account or Sandbox.
How Rhythm Chooses Your Starting Account
Every Console page belongs to one Rhythm account, so Rhythm chooses an account as soon as you sign in. It uses the first option that applies:
- The account you last used in this browser. Rhythm remembers the account in the browser you are using, not on your user account.
- Your default account, when this browser has no remembered account. Rhythm uses the default Rhythm account set for your user account, if one exists; otherwise, it uses your organization’s default Rhythm account. Because this setting is per user, it can send you to an account other than your organization’s default, including a sandbox. If that account is disabled, ask your administrator to change your default account setting instead of waiting for the account to be re-enabled.
If neither option gives Rhythm an account to open, such as when your user account is not linked to any organization, Rhythm cannot sign you in.
Because the remembered account belongs to the browser, you can start in different accounts on different computers. If you worked in your sandbox on your laptop yesterday, you land in the sandbox again this morning on that laptop, even though your organization’s default is your live account. On a new computer, you land in the default account.
The current account is also shared across every tab in the browser. If you switch accounts in one tab, new tabs open in the account you switched to. Tabs that were already open keep showing the old account until they reload.

Before You Begin
Prerequisites
- A Rhythm user account that your organization has set up for you and linked to your organization.
- Access to the Console and to the account you will work in, as allowed by your organization’s security settings.
- The address of your organization’s Console, from a bookmark or a link from your administrator.
- A browser that allows the site to store data, because Rhythm keeps your sign-in and current account in the browser.
- Open your organization’s Console address, or any Console link you were sent. If you are not signed in, Rhythm sends you to the sign-in page and remembers the page you asked for.
- On the sign-in page, enter your sign-in details and confirm.
- Wait while the Console shows Logging you in... just a moment... above the animated Rhythm logo. This usually takes a moment.
- Check the organization name in the top navigation bar. A sandbox also shows Sandbox mode in the top bar.
- If this is not the account you want, switch to the right one. See Switch to Another Account or Sandbox.
Result
You land on the page you originally asked for, or on the Console home page if you did not ask for a specific page. If something goes wrong while your details load, the loading message stays for about five seconds and then you land on the home page instead; open your page again from there. In the Platform Console, the home page greets you by first name, such as Good morning, Alex!, and names your organization: Here's where [account name] stands today.
Your sign-in stays in this browser after you close it, and all tabs in the browser share it. Rhythm renews your sign-in in the background while you work.
Sign Out
Sign out when you finish, especially on a shared computer.
- Go to Top navigation bar › [signed-in person's name] › Log Out.
- Wait for You've been logged out. About a second later, Rhythm takes you to the sign-in page.
Result
You are signed out completely, so the next sign-in in this browser asks for your details again. The next time you sign in on this browser, you start in the account you last used.
Warning
Log Out does not ask for confirmation or warn you about unsaved work, so save first. Your sign-in belongs to the whole browser, so close any other Console tabs as well.
Why You Are Sent Back to the Sign-In Page
Before you troubleshoot, confirm whether the problem is happening in the Rhythm Console or in a member’s portal sign-in. Those are different sign-in experiences with different causes, and this article covers Console sign-in.
Rhythm sends you to the sign-in page when it cannot find a valid sign-in for you in this browser. Common reasons are:
- You signed out, in this tab or another tab of the same browser.
- You are using a different browser or computer, or the browser’s stored site data was cleared.
- You started signing in in two tabs at once. Only the most recent sign-in counts, so the other tab asks you to sign in again.
- Rhythm could not load your details or choose an account. Rhythm treats this as “not signed in” and starts again.
Sign in again, and Rhythm returns you to the page you asked for.
The Console is optimized for Chrome. If the loop happens in another browser, test it in Chrome, ideally in an incognito or private window, before you escalate. That rules out a browser- or extension-specific cause.
Why a Different Organization Opened
Rhythm opened the account last used in this browser because a remembered account takes priority over the default account. This happens after you switch accounts in any tab of the browser, even if you switched yesterday. Use the account switcher to move to the organization you want; the next sign-in on this browser starts there.
If Sign-In or Account Choice Fails
| What you see | Likely reason | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Logging you in... just a moment... for a few seconds, then you are sent back to sign in, possibly several times, with no message | The account Rhythm tried to open is disabled, being deleted, or still being set up; or your user account is not linked to your organization | Contact Rhythm Support or your administrator. Tell them your user name and the organization you expected. Rhythm forgets the failed account in this browser. If a default account setting on your user account is sending you to a disabled account, ask your administrator to change that setting |
| A new console user never receives the email to set up a password, while other people at your organization receive Rhythm email normally | That address may be suppressed from receiving Rhythm email | Contact Rhythm Support to check whether the address is suppressed |
| An intermittent Failed to contact the origin error while trying to reach the Console | An upstream infrastructure incident affecting Rhythm can cause this error, not just your account or permissions | Try again shortly; contact Rhythm Support if it continues |
| An Access Denied message reading You do not have sufficient privileges to login to the console at this time. | Your organization’s security settings do not let you sign in to the Console | Ask your administrator for Console access |
| An Access Denied message about insufficient privileges to sign in to this account | You do not have access to the account you landed in | Ask your administrator for access to that account |
| Access Denied reading You do not have sufficient privileges to access this application. | Your access does not include the application you opened | Open another application from the application list |
| The top bar says you are not logged into an account, and the account switcher does not open | Rhythm could not choose an account for you | Contact your administrator or Rhythm Support |
| A captcha while you work | Rhythm is checking that you are a person | Complete it; the Console then continues with what you were doing |
When you contact Support, include your user name, the Console address you used, the organization you expected, the time it happened, and any message you saw.
