The Setup Overview page is your starting point for Orders & Inventory setup. It gives you checklist links to each setup screen, groups them by topic, and keeps the same setup areas in the side menu while you work.
Where to Find It
Go to Orders & Inventory › Setup. The page heading is Orders & Inventory Setup, and the welcome banner says Let's Configure the Orders & Inventory App.
When you open Setup, the Console side menu changes to Commerce Setup & Administration. This menu stays visible on every setup screen, so you can move between setup areas without returning to the checklist. Some guidance calls this app "Commerce" instead of "Orders & Inventory"; both names mean the same application.
If shipping on an order does not work the way you expect, start with the setup areas. Merchandise settings and Shipping in this menu control shipping availability and pricing, so the order record may not show the full reason by itself.
The menu includes Overview, Settings, Stores, Contact Role Permissions, Confirmation Emails, Coupons & Discounts (with All Codes, Code Generation Processes, Coupons, and Discount Products), Merchandise (Categories, Custom Fields, Shared Modifier Options, Shared Variant Options), Shipping (Products, Zones), Taxes (Classes, Products, Zones), and Warehouses. Entitlement Types appears only when entitlements are switched on for your account. It is the only setup area that does not have a matching checklist item, so you can reach it only from the side menu.
What the Checklist Covers
The checklist has six short groups of links, with two columns in each group. It does not track progress, so items never appear as done. This page also does not save changes or update your setup.
| Group | Links to |
|---|---|
| Orders & Products | Store list, warehouse list, and product confirmation email list |
| Merchandise | Merchandise categories, merchandise custom fields, shared variant options, and shared modifier options |
| Coupons | Coupon codes, coupon code generation processes, discount products, and the full coupon-code list |
| Shipping | Shipping products and shipping zones |
| Taxes | Tax classes, tax products, and tax zones |
| Almost Done.... | Contact role permissions and the Orders & Inventory settings record |
Tip
The checklist's Set up e-commerce coupon codes link and the side menu's Coupons entry open different coupon-code screens. If you use both, you may edit a coupon in one screen that a coworker cannot find from the other.
Tip
A merchandise item's financial and GL configuration is not part of this checklist or the Merchandise setup group. After you create or open the item, open its Merchandise Options menu and choose Modify Financial Configuration instead; see Merchandise Items: Create, Edit, and Find.
Who Can Open It
You need the commerce:admin:console:access permission to open the Setup Overview page. Without it, you see Access Denied with the message You must have commerce:admin:console:access permission for the requested resource., and the page does not open.
Console access opens only this page. Each checklist link and side menu entry checks the permission for its own destination. The checklist shows every link to anyone who can open the page, even if they cannot use every screen. If you open a screen you do not have permission for, you see the same type of Access Denied message with that screen's permission. For example, View/Manage all coupon codes requires its own coupon-codes permission. Ask your administrator for the specific permission named by the screen, not only for console access.
Tip
There is no setup screen or Console view for carts created directly through the Commerce API. This menu covers the Orders & Inventory setup screens; API-created carts follow a separate, developer-facing path that is not exposed here.
The organization contact field on the order-processing component is fixed. You cannot configure it to display as required on the frontend, even though choosing a contact is expected before you can complete that transaction.
