Orders & Inventory includes three ready-made Portal features: an online store with checkout, coupon-code pages, and order pages. When you switch on a feature, Rhythm adds those pages to your Portal so members can use them.
What It Controls
| Feature | What it adds to the Portal |
|---|---|
| Online Store | Storefront and checkout pages where members browse your store and make purchases |
| Coupon Codes | Pages where members view and manage coupon codes |
| Order Management | Pages where members view their own orders |
Each feature adds a fixed set of pages, web addresses, and menu placement. These work the same way in every Rhythm account, and the feature does not include settings to change them.
The Online Store feature is preconfigured to use the store with the ID MAIN. If your store uses a different ID, change the default store under Commerce Setup › Settings, or change the store property on the Portal page component so the Online Store pages point to the right store.
On-behalf purchasing works differently by product type in the Portal. Memberships and event registrations can offer on-behalf purchases, but merchandise purchases through the Online Store pages are only for the signed-in member. Members cannot buy merchandise for someone else through the Portal storefront.
Where to Find It
You add these features from the Portal page-design tooling, which shows the Portal features available from each application. Orders & Inventory adds these three features to that list, but it does not have its own setup screen for switching them on.
Prerequisites
- Access to your Portal's page-design tooling.
Dependencies and Precedence
- Switching on the Online Store feature adds only the storefront and checkout pages. It does not set up the store you sell from; see Set Up an Online Store.
- Switching on Coupon Codes or Order Management adds the Portal pages members use. Your Rhythm account's Portal member rules separately control what a member can do with a specific order or coupon; see Portal Member Rules.
Change Impact
Adding one of these features makes its pages available in the Portal. It does not remove or replace anything already there. If you no longer want members to use a feature's pages, switch off the feature in the same page-design tooling where you added it.
Warning
Hiding a feature's entry point, such as a menu link or checkout button, only changes what members see on the page. It does not stop a member from going directly to the page if they already have or guess its URL. To stop members from using a feature, switch the feature off instead of only hiding the path to it.
If your organization uses its own custom order processing logic, that logic can only use information sent with the order. A choice captured only in a Portal page's interface, such as an expedited-shipping choice, is not available to your custom logic unless Rhythm includes it in the order payload.
Why the List Looks the Way It Does
Orders & Inventory provides these three Portal features through one shared catalog, so they appear together when you browse available Portal features. They do not appear separately with other applications' features. The catalog does not include data specific to your Rhythm account; it only tells the Portal page-design tooling that these three features exist and what each one is called.
Because the catalog is the same for every Rhythm account, you cannot rename a feature's pages, move them to a different place in your Portal menu, or customize what adding the feature does beyond switching it on or off.
