If a card saved with Rhythm Payments expires, or you replace it, your memberships, recurring gifts, and installment schedules keep using the old card until you switch them. This tool finds those recurring charges so you can move the ones you choose to a newly saved card.
Prerequisites
- You are signed in to the portal.
- You have already saved the new card you want to use. See Save a Card with Rhythm Payments.
Find and Switch Your Recurring Charges
- Save the new card with Rhythm Payments, if you have not already.
- Open the tool your association provides for switching recurring charges from one saved card to another.
- Review the memberships, recurring gifts, and installment schedules that currently bill to your old card.
- Choose the charges you want to move to the new card.
- Confirm the switch.
Result
Each recurring charge you chose now bills to the new card instead of the old one. Rhythm updates the existing record directly, so it does not create a new membership, gift, or installment schedule.
Warning
This tool only finds and moves recurring charges that currently bill to a card saved with Rhythm Payments. If one of your renewals still bills through a different payment processor your association used before switching to Rhythm Payments, this tool will not find or move it because that charge is not tied to a Rhythm Payments card.
Why a Renewal Might Still Bill the Old Processor
If your association changed payment processors, some of your auto-renewals may still bill through the older processor. Each renewal keeps using the saved payment method it is already tied to until you move it, so saving a new card with Rhythm Payments does not automatically update your existing renewals.
If a renewal was never updated to a Rhythm Payments card, you or your association staff need to point it to a new saved payment method directly. This tool only switches charges between cards already saved with Rhythm Payments. After a renewal is tied to a Rhythm Payments card, you can use this tool again if that card needs to be replaced.
A saved card from your association’s previous processor is not automatically usable by Rhythm Payments. Each processor stores card information in a way only that processor can read, so Rhythm Payments cannot simply reuse a token saved with the old processor without some form of migration. If your association’s prior processor was BluePay through CardPointe, that path was retired when your association moved to Rhythm Payments, and switching back to it is no longer available.
Warning
When your association’s saved cards are carried over as part of a move to Rhythm Payments, you may see a card on your account before it is usable for billing. The card’s payment information may still need to be matched to your record, or its migration may still be in progress, before Rhythm Payments can charge it. Until that finishes, a renewal tied to that card may keep failing, or it may keep billing through the old processor, even though the saved card already shows on your account. From your account alone, there is usually no way to tell in advance which saved cards are still affected this way. When moving a stored card’s token from one processor to another is possible, the payment provider handles that process, not your association’s own staff.
If you are unsure whether an existing auto-renewal will keep working through this kind of migration, check with your association before turning it off. Depending on how your association’s migration was handled, a stored payment method may carry over successfully on its own, so disabling a renewal in advance is not always necessary.
Tip
If your association is troubleshooting why particular members are excluded from a renewal billing run after a processor change, first confirm that each member’s card was saved successfully with Rhythm Payments.
Tip
An organization-owned membership is matched to you through your contact record. If the membership belongs to your organization but is not linked through your contact, it may not appear in this list. Check with your association if you expected to see a membership here and it is missing.
