When your association uses Rhythm Payments, you can save a card on a payment page and use it later without re-entering your card details. You might save a card when you set up a recurring gift, an installment plan, or another payment your association allows.
Saving a card is not the same as making a one-time payment. A one-time payment uses your card number for that charge only, while a saved card becomes a reusable payment method on your contact record. Your association’s staff or Rhythm can then charge it again on your behalf.
Prerequisites
- Your association uses Rhythm Payments as the payment processor for the payment page you are using.
- Some payment pages require you to sign in to the portal before saving a card, and others do not. Your association decides that requirement when it builds the specific page.
Save a Card
- Open the payment page your association gave you, such as a page for a recurring gift or an installment plan.
- Enter your card number and the other card details the page asks for.
- Enter the billing address that matches your card. The payment page asks for this address separately from any other address on your profile.
- Submit the form to save the card.
Result
Rhythm saves the billing address with the card and checks the card before keeping it. After the card is saved, your association can use it for future payments that charge a saved card, such as recurring charges.
Tip
Rhythm checks the card each time you resubmit its billing address, even if you did not change anything. If you go back and submit the same address again, Rhythm runs the same check again.
Why the Payment Page Asks for a Billing Address
Rhythm Payments verifies each saved card by checking the billing address you enter against the card. This is a normal part of saving the card, not an extra step you can skip. Use the address shown on your card statement or by your card issuer, because a different address may not match.
Rhythm stores one billing address on each saved card. If you enter a new address for the same card later, Rhythm replaces the previous address. If you submit a blank or incomplete address, Rhythm refuses the save.
A hyphenated ZIP code, such as the nine-digit ZIP+4 format, does not by itself keep a card from saving. If the card still fails to save after you enter a hyphenated ZIP code, look for another mismatch between the billing address and your card instead of removing the hyphen.
