You tried to delete a registration type, category, deadline, add-on type, add-on product, change fee, or package, but Rhythm would not allow it.
Scope
This article covers the setup, or “catalog,” records behind registration: registration types, registration categories, registration deadlines, add-on types, add-on products, change fees, and registration packages. It does not cover deleting an event or deleting a registration.
Why the Delete Is Refused
Cause. Rhythm will not delete a catalog record while another record still points to it, because registration setup records depend on each other. For example, you cannot delete a registration type while it is still assigned to a registration process or category. You also cannot delete a registration package while it still names a registration type, a function, a function fee, a session track, a session, a registration deadline, a course, or an add-on product. Rhythm will also refuse to delete an add-on product that is still tied to a registration deadline or an add-on type. Registration settings and registrations that reference a deadline prevent you from deleting that deadline, and a registration process that uses a change fee prevents you from deleting that change fee.
A registration package can also have its own financial configuration connected underneath its setup. If that connection still exists, open the package’s linked financial configuration and remove that association before you delete the package. You still need to clear any other dependencies listed above.
Check. Start with the record you want to delete, then look for the records that use it. For a registration type, check the registration processes and categories that use it. For a package, check its type, functions and function fees, sessions and tracks, deadlines and courses, add-on products, and financial configuration. For a deadline, check the registration settings and registrations that reference it. For a change fee, check the registration processes that use it.
Fix. Remove or reassign every dependent record first. For example, remove the package from the process, remove the function or session from the package, remove the add-on’s deadline link, and continue until nothing else points to the record. Then delete the record you originally wanted to remove. If you want to delete a package, also open its linked financial configuration and delete that association before you delete the package itself.
To remove an old session track that packages still reference, edit each package that uses it. Switch to specific session tracks if it is not already, remove the track using the X next to its name, and save. Once no package names the track, you can delete it.
Should You Deactivate Instead?
Deleting a catalog record is permanent. Once the delete succeeds, the record and its identifier are gone for good. Most of these setup records, like other Rhythm settings, have a Status switch you can turn off instead. Deactivating removes the record from the choices available when someone builds something new, such as a new package, new process, or new registration. It does not affect anything that already uses the record, and it avoids leaving another record pointing at something that no longer exists. If you are not certain that nothing still needs the record, deactivate it and revisit the delete later after you confirm nothing depends on it.
For an add-on product, you have two related but different ways to stop future sales instead of deleting it: hide it from the Portal, or mark it inactive. Hiding an add-on removes it from the Portal so registrants no longer see it there, while staff can still add it in the Console. Marking it inactive stops it from appearing in event registrations going forward. These two settings also affect queries differently: an add-on must stay active to appear in query results, but it can still be hidden from Portal users at the same time.
When to Contact Support
Contact Rhythm Support if you have removed every dependency you can find and Rhythm still refuses the delete. You can also contact Support if you are not sure which record is still pointing at the one you want to remove. Include:
- the record’s name, identifier, and type, such as registration type, package, or deadline;
- the event it belongs to, if it is event-specific;
- what you have already checked and removed;
- the exact message Rhythm showed when it refused the delete, if you have it.
