When a coupon takes a fixed amount off the whole order, Rhythm uses a product to post that discount in your financial records. A discount product is only for that posting. It belongs to one business unit and can have its own general ledger setup, but it does not have a price, description, or storefront presence.
Every coupon with the discount type "A fixed amount off the order total" must use a discount product. For more about setting up coupons, see Coupons.
Tip
If a coupon cannot be applied the way you need, you can use a miscellaneous product configured as a discount product as a temporary workaround. It subtracts the amount you need from the invoice without going through the coupon.
Where to Find It
Go to Setup › Coupons & Discounts › Discount Products. The page opens with a list headed Manage Discount Products.
Create a Discount Product
- Go to Setup › Coupons & Discounts › Discount Products.
- Press
Create Discount Product. - Choose the
Business Unit:that the discount posts under. This sets the discount's identifier prefix and determines which books it lands in. - Enter a
Name:. Rhythm suggests theID:from the name and adds the business unit's code in front when you save. For example,Sample 12under business unitFAAis stored asFAA-SAMPLE-12. - Press
Save Changes.
Result
Discount Product '[name]' saved successfully. The product now appears in the Discount Product: picker on the coupon form for coupons that take a fixed amount off the whole order.
Changing a Discount Product
You can rename a discount product or change its status at any time. You cannot change its business unit after you save it, because past orders posted their discounts under the original business unit. The field is disabled on the edit form.
You also cannot change a discount product's record identifier, including through a bulk or mass update. If you try, the update fails with an invalid-request error stating that the record identifier cannot be changed.
Financial Setup
Each row in the discount products list includes a Financial Setup entry if you have the Collect financial-configuration permission. Use it to choose which accounts the discount posts to. If you do not have that permission, the entry does not appear on the row.
Switching a Discount Product Off
Change Status: to Inactive to remove the discount product from the coupon form's picker, so new coupons cannot choose it. Any coupon that already uses that discount product keeps using it.
Deleting a Discount Product
You cannot delete a discount product while a coupon still uses it. Point the coupon to a different discount product, or delete the coupon, before you delete the discount product.
Permissions
You need access to Orders & Inventory Setup to open the Discount Products screens. You also need the Collect financial-configuration permission to change a discount product's financial setup.
