When members browse certification programs in the Portal's grouped list view, they see headings such as a discipline or credential family. Those headings are program groups, and each one gathers related programs beneath it. This article explains how to create, rename, retire, and reorder them.

What It Controls

A program group is a heading used only when the Portal's Browse Programs page shows a grouped list instead of tiles. You choose a program's group on the program's own form. If a program has no group, it appears under Other Programs.

Where to Find It

Go to Certifications › Setup › Programs › Groups to see every group in your account, in the order the Portal uses. Select Create Program Group to add a group, or open a row to edit an existing one.

Prerequisites

  • You need access to Certifications Setup to open this screen.

Create or Rename a Group

  1. Go to Certifications › Setup › Programs › Groups and select Create Program Group (or open an existing group to rename it).
  2. Enter a Name. This is the heading members see.
  3. Confirm the ID. Rhythm fills it in from the name, and you cannot change it after you save a new group.
  4. Set Status to Active or Inactive.
  5. Select Save Changes.

Result

The group is available to choose on the program form. A newly created group has no position yet, so it appears after every group that is already ordered until you drag it into place.

The Settings

Setting Options Default Effect
Name Any text None; required The heading members see in the grouped program list. Nothing stops two groups from sharing the same name
ID Generated from the name; letters, digits, and a few punctuation characters Suggested from the name The group's stable identifier. You cannot change it after the group is created
Status Active, Inactive Active Controls whether the group can still be chosen on the program form. See "Retiring a Group" below

Reorder Groups

You set the Portal order by dragging rows on the Program Groups list. The group form does not have an order field.

  1. Go to Certifications › Setup › Programs › Groups.
  2. Drag a row's grip handle to the position you want.

Result

The new order is saved as soon as you drop the row, with no confirmation prompt.

Retiring a Group

Set a group's Status to Inactive when you want to stop offering it for new programs without deleting it.

Warning

Retiring a group does not hide it from members. In the Portal's grouped list, they still see the group and its programs exactly as before. A program that already names the retired group keeps that group until someone clears it on the program's own form.

Dependencies and Precedence

  • A program not assigned to any group shows under Other Programs in the grouped list.
  • The order set here is what the Portal's grouped list follows. Within a group, programs follow the display order set on each program; there is no separate ordering for programs within a group.
  • Deleting a group is separate from retiring one and is covered elsewhere.

Change Impact and How to Revert

Renaming a group changes the heading members see immediately, and programs already assigned to the group keep that assignment. Reordering groups changes the Portal's display order immediately, with no undo beyond dragging the rows back. To revert a retirement, set the group's status back to Active.

Permissions

Staff who can open Certifications Setup can create, rename, reorder, and retire program groups.

Validation and Errors

Behavior Cause What to know
The save is refused with a blank name Name is required Enter a name before saving
Two groups end up with the same name Nothing prevents it Rename one of them if this causes confusion for members
