Deleting a program, program group, or expiration rule set permanently removes it from your catalog. Each deletion checks for its own dependencies before it runs, and none of them can be undone.
What It Controls
- Deleting a program removes the program, its own application fees, and its training-provider programs.
- Deleting a program group removes only the group.
- Deleting an expiration rule set removes only the set.
The confirmation dialog names only the record you are deleting and warns that the action cannot be undone. It does not list other records that will be affected.
Where to Find It
- Programs: Setup › Programs › Catalog.
- Program groups: Setup › Programs › Groups.
- Expiration rule sets: Setup › Applications › Expiration Rule Sets.
On each list, Rhythm hides the row's Delete icon when a record is protected from deletion. For any other row, the icon deletes the record after you confirm.
Prerequisites
You need the permission your administrator grants for Certifications setup to delete any of these three record types.
The Settings
| What you're deleting | What blocks the delete | What is deleted with it | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Program | A course that still lists the program | The program's own application fees and training-provider programs | No |
| Program group | Any program that still names the group | Nothing else | No |
| Expiration rule set | A legacy process that still names the set | Nothing else | No |
Dependencies and Precedence
- Remove a program from every course that lists it before you delete the program. You can also delete the course first.
- Move a program to another group, or remove its group, before you delete the program group.
- Remove an expiration rule set from any legacy process that names it before you delete the set.
- Records added by an import or direct write, instead of saved through the ordinary Console forms, may not create the link used by this dependency check. When that link is missing, the record does not block deletion the way a normally entered record would.
Change Impact and How to Revert
Warning
None of these deletions can be undone. Once you delete a program, program group, or expiration rule set, you cannot bring back the deleted record. For a program, you also cannot bring back the application fees and training-provider programs deleted with it.
- Other records that named a deleted program, group, or rule set are not updated or cleared when you delete it. For example, a grandfathered-renewal list, notice, discount, or coupon that named the program keeps a stale reference that no longer matches anything.
- If a new program later reuses the same identifier as a deleted program, every stale reference to the old identifier applies to the new program instead.
- Layouts, screens, forms, and fee rule sets that a program or legacy process still names are protected from deletion in the same way, as long as the program or process created the reference through its own ordinary save.
Permissions
You need the permission your administrator grants for Certifications setup to delete a program, a program group, or an expiration rule set.
Validation and Errors
- Rhythm refuses to delete a program while any course still lists it. Remove the program from the course, or delete the course, before you delete the program.
- Rhythm refuses to delete a program group while any program still names it. Move or reassign that program's group first.
- Rhythm refuses to delete an expiration rule set while any legacy process still names it. Remove that reference first.
- If you try to re-create a record with the same identifier immediately after deleting it, Rhythm refuses the creation until the delete has fully processed.
