Your Rhythm account administrator can give staff one of three ready-made access levels for Orders & Inventory: Read Only, Day-to-Day User, or Administrator. This reference explains what each level allows. For how permission assignment and access denial work in the Console generally, see How the Console Decides What You Can See.
The Three Access Levels
| Access Level | Grants | Can Open Setup? |
|---|---|---|
| Read Only | View orders, stock, the catalog, and other Orders & Inventory records; run, download, and schedule reports and queries | No |
| Day-to-Day User | Everything Read Only grants, plus every regular Orders & Inventory action: create and manage orders, process cancellations and returns, fulfill and ship orders, adjust stock, and work with the merchandise catalog and coupons | No |
| Administrator | Every Orders & Inventory action, including Setup and every settings screen | Yes |
How to Read It
Only the Administrator level can open Setup and change settings, including taxes, shipping, stores, the merchandise catalog’s configuration, coupons, and the account’s own Orders & Inventory settings. There is no middle level for only part of Setup. If a staff member needs to set up shipping zones or taxes, for example, they need the Administrator level, even if you would rather limit them to that area.
Read Only and Day-to-Day User both keep every setup and settings screen closed. A staff member with either level cannot see or open Setup at all, even though Day-to-Day User can work with regular Orders & Inventory records.
Warning
The description your account shows for the Day-to-Day User access level may mention contact and organization management instead of Orders & Inventory work. That wording was carried over from a different application area; the grants in the table above are what this level actually gives in Orders & Inventory.
Applicability
These three levels are ready-made combinations of individual permissions, so an administrator can assign one instead of building a custom set. They apply only to Orders & Inventory. A staff member’s access to other applications, such as Finance & Billing or CRM, is granted separately. See How the Console Decides What You Can See for what happens when access is missing, and how long a newly granted or removed access level takes to reach someone who already has the Console open.
