A credit is money Rhythm holds on your account, or on your organization’s account, that you can use toward a future invoice instead of paying by card or bank account. In the Portal, you’ll see your available credit in your account summary rather than on a separate page of individual credits.
When to Use This
Use this task when you want to check how much credit you or your organization currently has available. To view your full balance with your credit, see View Your Account Summary in the Portal. To pay an invoice using credit with, or instead of, a card or bank account, see Pay and View Your Payments in the Portal.
Prerequisites
- You must be signed in to the Portal and linked to a contact record.
- To see an organization’s credit, you must belong to that organization.
See Your Available Credit
- Go to My Financial Overview.
- Look at the Credit Balance tile.
Result
The tile shows the total credit currently available to you, listed by each currency you hold credit in.
Tip
There is no dedicated page that lists your individual credits one by one. The Credit Balance total is what you’ll find in the Portal. If you need a record that a credit was issued, a screenshot or browser-printed copy of this summary is the closest option available. It will not include the accounting detail a receipt would have, but it does show the balance.
Credit During Checkout
When you have available credit and start checkout, Rhythm shows your full available credit balance, even when that balance is more than the amount due on the order. That display shows what is available to you; completing the order only uses the amount the order needs, not your whole balance.
Available credit can appear as a payment option during event registration in the Portal, not only for membership purchases. It does not appear everywhere consistently: some registrations and some open-invoice payment pages show credit as an option, while others do not, even when you have a balance. If you do not see your available credit where you expect it, contact your association’s staff. They can often apply the credit for you during checkout even when it does not appear as a self-service option. Tell them which invoice or event you were trying to pay for so they can check whether the issue is specific to your account or affects something broader.
See Your Organization’s Available Credit
- Go to Corporate Account Summary.
- Look at the Credit Balance tile.
Result
The tile shows the organization’s total available credit, listed by currency.
Tip
An organization’s credit total includes only credit that belongs to the organization itself. It does not include credit that belongs to an individual contact in the organization.
When an order is placed on behalf of an organization, any credit from cancelling or refunding it is issued to the organization’s own account, not to the individual who placed the order. This includes credit granted through a cancellation or refund, not just credit granted directly. That is why a credit from cancelling someone’s registration can appear in the organization’s balance instead of that person’s own credit. It also will not automatically appear if you re-register the same person later; the credit must be applied from the organization’s side.
Right now, any contact associated with the organization appears able to use its credit, regardless of their specific role there. Rhythm has not narrowed this to particular roles. If a contact can see the organization’s credit but cannot apply it themselves during a purchase, they can ask their association’s staff to apply it to their balance instead.
Warning
Credit can only be transferred between accounts of the same type: from one individual to another individual, or from one organization to another organization. It cannot be transferred from an individual’s account to an organization’s, or the other way around.
