Engagement scoring gives each contact and organization a score based on their engagement with your association. Rhythm calculates scores automatically each night. Before scores appear, turn on engagement scoring for your account and choose a scoring model for each kind of record you want Rhythm to score. This article covers both settings.
Prerequisites
- Your account needs the Member Engagement add-on before the engagement setup menus appear.
- At least one active scoring model of the right kind, contact or organization, must already exist before you can choose it here. Categories, metrics, and scoring models are set up separately.
Where to Find It
Go to Setup › Settings. If your account has the Member Engagement add-on, you will see an Engagement card on this page.
The Settings
| Setting | Options | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enable engagement scoring | On/off | Off | Controls whether Rhythm calculates new scores during the nightly scoring run. When this is off, no new scores are calculated. |
| Contact Scoring Model: | Any active model of kind Contact | None | Scores contacts after you turn on engagement scoring. |
| Organization Scoring Model: | Any active model of kind Organization | None | Scores organizations after you turn on engagement scoring. |
The two model pickers appear after you tick Enable engagement scoring.
Warning
You can turn on engagement scoring without choosing either model, but nothing visible changes. Rhythm does not score a kind of record until you choose a model for it.
Tip
If an Engagement Scores query returns no rows, the contact or organization records usually do not have scores yet. Confirm that both a Contact Scoring Model and an Organization Scoring Model are selected and saved, and remember that new scores come from the next nightly run, not immediately.
Why You Might Not See the Engagement Setup Menus
The Engagement card and the Engagement group in your account's setup menu appear only when your account has the Member Engagement add-on. If you do not see them, your account does not currently have the add-on. Contact Rhythm Support to ask about adding it.
Dependencies and Precedence
- The switch here is separate from the add-on itself. An account with the add-on is not scored while this switch is off. Turning this switch on has no effect unless the add-on is active for the account.
- A model you later deactivate keeps scoring. If you later make the selected scoring model inactive, Rhythm keeps it selected and continues to use it until you choose a different one. Deactivating a model does not stop it from being used here.
- Turning scoring on does not, by itself, calculate any historical scores. It starts the nightly run going forward. If you want scores calculated as though scoring had already been running, use a separate historical lookback.
Change Impact and How to Revert
Switching scoring off stops new scores from being calculated starting with the next nightly run. It does not delete or hide the scores and measurements your account already has, so they remain available on contact and organization records and in reports. There is no cleanup step tied to switching scoring off. If you switch it on again later, scoring resumes and past scores are still there.
Changing the model used to score contacts or organizations takes effect with the next nightly run. It does not recalculate scores already on file. If you want existing scores recalculated under a new model, you need a separate historical lookback.

Validation and Errors
You can save this page with Enable engagement scoring on and no model chosen for either kind. Rhythm does not warn you before saving that nothing will be scored. If the save fails for another reason, the message looks the same as a successful save except for its color and the reason text beneath it. If you are unsure your change took effect, reopen the page to confirm it was saved.
