The multiple-certification discount lowers the application fee for a person or organization that already holds several certifications. Use it to reward applicants who are renewing or building a portfolio of credentials. This article explains how to turn the discount on, set the discount size, and exclude specific programs.
What It Controls
This setting controls whether a lower application fee applies after a person or organization already holds a chosen number of certifications. It also controls the discount amount and which programs never receive the discount. The setting applies only to application fees; it never discounts course or exam registration fees.
Where to Find It
Go to Certifications › Setup › Settings and open the Multiple Certification Discounts card.
Prerequisites
- You need access to Certifications Setup to open the Settings page.
The Settings
| Setting | Options | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multiple Certification Discounts | On, Off | Off | Turns on the application fee discount across your Rhythm account |
| Which certification programs should be ineligible for this discount? | Zero or more of your Rhythm account's certification programs | None | Keeps selected programs' application fees at full price, even when the applicant qualifies |
| Discount type | Amount, Percentage | Amount | Sets whether the discount is a fixed amount or a percentage of the fee |
| Discount amount | A number | None; required while the discount is on | Sets the discount size, using the discount type you chose |
| Do not give a discount for the first | A number of certifications | 0 | Sets how many of a person's or organization's certifications are charged at full price before the discount starts |
How the Discount Is Applied
When the discount is on, Rhythm checks each application fee at checkout to see whether the buyer already holds enough certifications to qualify. A certification counts toward that total only when it is due this calendar year or was renewed within the last 90 days. A certification that is not due until next year, and has not renewed recently, does not count.
This setting affects only application fees. Course fees and exam fees are never discounted by this setting, even when the buyer qualifies.
Tip
Add a program to the ineligible list when its applications should stay at full price. The program will not receive this discount, even if the applicant otherwise qualifies, while the rest of your catalog can still be discounted.
Dependencies and Precedence
- The discount only prices application fees, so use a different option, such as a coupon, when you need to discount a course or exam registration.
- The "do not give a discount for the first" count sets how many certifications are charged in full before the discount applies to later ones.
- A deleted program left in the ineligible list stays there harmlessly; it has no effect after the program no longer exists.
Change Impact and How to Revert
Changes to the discount terms take effect on new orders as soon as you save. This includes turning the discount on or off, changing the amount or type, and editing the ineligible list. Orders that were already placed keep the pricing they were charged at. To revert, return to the Multiple Certification Discounts card and change the settings back, or turn the discount off.

Validation and Errors
| Behavior | Cause | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| The save is refused | The discount is on, but no discount type or amount is entered, or the discount type is not Amount or Percentage | Choose a discount type and enter an amount before saving |
| A discount amount or percentage of any size is accepted | Rhythm does not check the amount against a minimum or maximum | A percentage above 100, or a large fixed amount, can price an application fee below zero. Review your terms carefully before saving |
