Recipient categories appear beyond their setup page. This reference shows where an award’s categories appear on staff forms, in the Portal, and anywhere the Console displays a category by name. To create, rename, reorder, or delete categories, see Recipient Categories.
On Staff Forms
When recipient categories are turned on for an award and the award has at least one category, staff see a Recipient Categories picker on nomination, nominee, and application forms. Use the picker to choose the category the record belongs to.
The picker lists categories by name, even if you arranged them in a different order on the setup page. If the award has more categories than one page can hold, the picker shows only the first page.
Inactive categories appear in this picker the same way active categories do.
If an award has more than one recipient category, reviewers still see every application through one shared Application Page Layout. There is no separate layout for each category, so any category-specific questions you want reviewers to see must be on that one layout. The review display only shows fields that have a value on the submission being viewed, so a question left blank for one category’s application does not appear for that reviewer.
On the Portal
Portal members can see an award’s list of recipient categories, such as when a submission form offers those categories. They cannot create a category, open one category by itself, change a category, or delete a category. Portal members are refused for every recipient category action except listing an award’s categories.
Shown by Name, Not by Identifier
When the Console shows a record’s recipient category, it shows the category name instead of the category identifier. That name comes from a search index, which can take a short time to update after you save. Right after you create or rename a category, a screen may briefly show the category’s identifier or previous name until the index updates.
Tip
On a contact’s or organization’s 360 page, look for the singular Recipient Category field. The separate, plural Recipient Categories field on that page does not show anything because recipient records do not carry a value for it.
In Email Content
To list an application’s or nomination’s recipient categories in an email, loop over them instead of expecting one merge field to work. For example, {{#each application.recipient_categories}} * {{name}} {{/each}} prints each category name on its own line. The same pattern works in application process emails and nomination process emails, including a nomination’s nominee notification email once that email is enabled.
In Queries
Recipient category is available as an output field when you query Nominations. Add it to a Nominations query’s results the same way you would add any other field.
Through the API
An API call that lists an award’s recipient categories returns them by name. It cannot return categories in the order chosen on the setup page. As with the pickers above, one call returns only the first page of results.
